The whole piece is definitely worthwhile. The thing about this strategy (excerpted here) that many elected Dems seem to have embraced is that I fear it not only fails to confront, it *normalizes* the abuses. ”Well how important can it be if the other party barely raises a stink about it?”

I think that story that came out about Miller telling the generals they didn't understand the limits of international law so it was okay to bomb boats is so telling because it reveals how Miller approaches legality, not in terms of what the law says, but in terms of what will enforce it

"Miller plainly believes there’s a latent majority out in the country that can be sleepwalked into authoritarianism."

What comes across in this excellent @gregsargent.bsky.social profile of the infinitely loathsome Stephen Miller is that his is a very deliberate strategy. Must-read.
Inside Stephen Miller’s Secret Plan to Normalize Trump’s Dictator Rule
He wants to supercharge searing civil tensions to get low-information voters to embrace their inner authoritarian. Exactly two Democrats appear to fully grasp this.

His follow-up with Shapiro, which was actually recorded prior to Kirk’s killing but they re-tooled it as a post-Kirk reflection, also suffered from disastrous framing: “Ben Shapiro and I Talk Political Deescalation”
bernybelvedere.bsky.social
Talking political DE-ESCALATION with the Daily Wire's Ben Shapiro, a DEMONCRAT SCALP COLLECTOR who spends TWENTY THREE AND A HALF HOURS A DAY roasting pervert libs for bringing about the END OF CIVILIZATION, and the remaining half hour dumping AMERICA'S SOY SUPPLY INTO THE BOSTON HARBOR.

I like Ezra a lot but the pushback he received on this was entirely fair.
bernybelvedere.bsky.social
This is indefensible. You can commend Kirk for engaging with dissenters in discussion and debate without preposterously elevating that to a full-blown positive appraisal of the way he practiced politics, which, in the main, involved being an indefatigable reactionary provocateur.

Don't get me wrong, the "theocratic" part of "theocratic libertarian" is certainly coming across. But I missed that passage in Milton Friedman where he thought we should enshrine the 10 Commandments and force people to stay married.

In Douglas Wilson's disastrous New York Times interview, he simultaneously affirms limited government while prescribing a codification of fundamentalist sexual ethics that would require a vast statist apparatus to police and enforce. Incoherent.

The report quotes Bray admitting that there may be an innocuous explanation for all this and expresses a desire not to come across as conspiratorial, but I think he is perfectly within his rights to see it all as quite fishy. Trump has pledged an all-out assault on "Antifa."

“Someone” cancelled my family’s flight out of the country at the last second.

We got our boarding passes. We checked our bags. Went through security. Then at our gate our reservation ‘disappeared.’

Rapidly becoming a single-issue voter with that issue being *make sure Pizzagate Posobiec never sets foot in the White House again*. Ready to pledge support to any candidate from any party who guarantees this.

Doing politics the right way is when the far-right regime in power memorializes a fallen influencer by terrorizing an academic that the influencer's McCarthyist organization once baselessly singled out for abuse.
bernybelvedere.bsky.social
I think it says a lot that the organization that essentially paid a $16 million bribe to Trump, and got an $8 billion merger approved by federal regulators afterwards, was looking for a way to convey its newfound openness to Trump and decided that Bari and her mag were the way to do that.

Perhaps the most definitive refutation of Bari Weiss' longrunning projection of herself and The FP as post-partisan, not-on-your-side truthtellers is CBS's acquisition of The FP and installation of Weiss as EIC *precisely* at a time when Paramount was desperately seeking to curry favor with Trump.

MAGA makes a mockery of Christian teaching.
bernybelvedere.bsky.social
For many social conservatives, the Bible is a mere instrument by which to backfill theological license for the political conclusions they had already drawn; a divine imprimatur that retroactively blesses the political values they had antecedently and independently developed.
bernybelvedere.bsky.social
Their prayers are to themselves. They’ve flattened the Christian faith into a theological license to carry out their violent political program. In the face of actual prayers in line with Christian teaching, this is how they respond.

Honestly, though, D’Souza wasn’t wrong—this is unbelievable content.

I'm sure suburbia works for lots of people, but I've only lived in big cities so my frame of reference is skewed. I would die of boredom if I wasn't in the city. There's opportunity and culture and energy. Every day you walk to work or go to the bar you see 50 new people!
