Just in case I've not made it clear, I believe everybody on the planet should get free healthcare.

Yep, those people too.

Some folks aren't down with socialised medicine, and that's their opinion. This is mine.

Ask me about my stance on UBI....

It is rational to fear what covid does to the body.

And this ableist machismo, separating "fear" and rational thinking, isn't helpful here. They aren't dichotomous.

It is rational to mask in order to avoid covid, long covid, spreading covid, and causing others to have long covid.

(and i think it is a demand that stems from fear more than a rational assessment of the threat environment)

This weekend, three men in Evanston hugged their families goodbye to look for work at Home Depot but were attacked by ICE before they could return home.

Two were abducted, one is petrified of leaving the home.

If you’re able, please help us support our neighbors: www.gofundme.com/f/stand-with...

The "No Kings" march is part of a diversity of tactics. It's a great intro for anti-fascist curious people and gives people hope and courage through unity and the recognition that they're not alone. Isolation is bad, community is good. See you there!

Hope to see you every day afterwards...

The problem was the new(er) thermometer stopped working, and the old thermometer registered fine at room temperature but as soon as you stuck it in the turkey it would reset at 100f, therefore just giving a random number between 1-100.
sobyv.bsky.social
We made turkey that ended up being undercooked by 7pm Monday, ended up eating ham that night. Ate turkey the following day, but this recipe would've been helpful.
A photo of a recipe, text up top reads "I was reading a cookbook from the 80s and stumbled across this gem." and the recipe reads "New turkey dressing: 4c crushed dry bread, 1/2c uncooked popcorn, 1/2c. sage..."
The recipe continues, Mix well; stuff turkey. Cook 5 hours at 300 degrees or until popcorn blows the ass off the turkey

The rest of the recipe reads:
1 tsp salt
1/4c onions
5c broth
1/2 c celery

Cerebral blood flow (CBF) is vital for delivering oxygen and nutrients to the brain. Many forms of orthostatic intolerance (OI) involve impaired regulation of CBF in the upright posture, which results in disabling symptoms that

This is a fantastic article I encourage everyone to read.

The damaging effects of COVID on our immune system are not up for debate.

It’s not hypothetical.

And it’s not limited to “only the vulnerable”.

This is why many of us mask. Respirators like an N95 do a great job preventing covid.

Nearly everyone has had COVID, and in most cases some symptoms of Long COVID (none diagnosed), so they know how it feels.

When I think of what an ideal living situation would be, part of the fantasy is everyone doing -something- to protect me from catching COVID again.
sobyv.bsky.social
I cant even get my regular hcws to mask on my appointments, literally the ones with intimate knowledge of the ongoing issues I have with Long COVID.
sobyv.bsky.social
Long COVID absolutely sucks.

Trying to get those close to me to mask or the most minor mitigations is difficult (nigh on impossible) so I end up having to mask in my own house.

You can declare yourself against “universal public masking”, but that means I can declare you a dick.

Long COVID absolutely wrecked my shit because people just couldn’t see themselves considering the health of others. Knowing you’re comfortable with that tells me everything I need to know.

Today, a thread to honor and celebrate #IndigenousPeoplesDay.
The world is so big, so there will be a second and maybe a third part.
We will begin with Zuni weaver We’wha (1849-1896).

We’wha (1849-1896), a notable weaver and potter Lhamana (Zuni Two Spirit), took on both masculine and feminine tasks as a Zuni cultural ambassador and pottery and textile artist.
Also a spiritual leader, We’wha endeavored to preserve the history, traditions, and knowledge of the Zuni people.
A black and white, full body portrait of We'wha, a highly respected cultural figure in Zuni culture, known as a "lhamana" (two spirits). We'wha is standing, looking at the camera, wearing traditional Zuni attire, with patterned clothing, woven belts, a long beaded necklace, and earrings. The hair is styled with side buns adorned with ribbons.

Sigh it’s time for our weekly remonstrance:

FATNESS ISN’T IMMORAL YOU FUCKING FUCKS

ICE, Trump, et al are not evil because they’re fat. They’re evil because they hurt people.

All you’re doing is reinforcing hurtful stereotypes and I do unfollow and block when I see it.

Western Alaska was hit hard by the recent storms. Houses floated away in Kipnuk, houses flipped over, people lost everything from the flooding that came with the storms. Please donate if you can. This group has a long history of supporting AK communities.
