Pushback is growing on the University of Alaska Fairbanks campus to the UA leadership’s decision to remove all references to DEI from websites, publications, job titles, offices and programs. The student newspaper is covering it: www.uafsunstar.com/news/regents...

Devastating & predictable after last week’s BOR motion. @inspiringgirls-ak.bsky.social took a few trainings from NDAC over the years that positively impacted our teaching & facilitation on our expeditions. Did anyone archive their pages? Would love to help make sure the resources remain accessible.

So amazing!!! 😍
Thanks to our incredible community, we've raised over $20,000 from more than 170 individuals and families, as well as several philanthropic grants to help us reach (and surpass!) our $36,000 goal to host our expeditions this summer. 1/

Great idea!
Everyone should contact state congress members and push for a more balanced method of selecting people who govern most higher education in the entire state.

I’d recommend 3 appointed by the governor, 3 appointed by the legislature, 3 by Alaska Native tribes 1 student member, and 1 faculty member.

It violates not only the U.S. Constitution, but also the Alaska State Constitution and their own bylaws. Yet, they can say “we support academic freedom, but don’t ever use these three words.”

Banning words is anti-intellectual and a trait of fascism.

Hey fellow University of Alaska folk! You pissed about this, especially given that at basically the same time a judge issued an injunction against implementing those EOs? Guess what, you can email the chancellor for your university + the BoR!
God fucking dammit

I'd call this spineless but that'd be an insult to all the invertebrates of the world

Incredibly disappointing response from the University of Alaska.

No university support for diversity, for equity, for inclusion is allowed.

Just disgraceful for the board of regents of an institution of higher education to make this choice.

What we have instead is blades of grass, bending in the wind, however it blows. People without a shred of empathy."

Again, I am confident that AK and PA and AZ and DC were not due to any recent attacks from the White House or Musk.

I will not be confident of that statement anymore.

I do not know what caused the crash in Toronto. But I am worried and if you are too, you need to make your voices heard. /fin

Firings are happening right now at the National Science Foundation. Essential staff are being cut.

This isn’t about the budget. If it was, they’d be going after the military (17%) or state appropriations (38%). NSF is 0.7% of the federal budget. All federal employees make up only 4% of the budget.

NEW: NSF confirmed that they fired 168 employees today, out of their staff of ~1,500 feds.

This includes some people who'd finished their 1-year probationary periods, which were extended to 2-years last month without explanation. More to come.
