Superintendent Luke Meinert is now going over the fiscal plan for PCSC.

He is very clear and emphatic that opening a charter will cost the school district.

He says it is false the charter will generate revenue.

Still illegal. And should be reported as such so people are aware that it’s illegal.

There needs to be more coverage of this in the news. I have read so many stories bout this on Facebook, first hand stories of the terror of that storm, and very little coverage n media.

Screenshot of a Facebook post. Photo is an elderly woman holding a child on her ap on a couch with flood water around them. Both are wearing jackets inside. Text says: This was after our 1st drift.. staying put for awhile. Our 3rd and final drift was terrifying. House moving fast then we started spinning in circles. While we were spinning in circles my oldest daughter was just staring at me while I held onto my younger two. Kipnuk doesn't look like kipnuk anymore, like more than 3/4 of the homes displaced, power poles fallen. It smells like stove oil outside. Contaminated

Excellent article by @alaskawx.bsky.social explaining the weather conditions that led to the flooding catastrophe, and how it all fits into the bigger picture: funding weather forecasting, & climate change.

I strongly urge you to read this interview with @alaskawx.bsky.social who has unique insight and perspective on the catastrophic surge event in western Alaska I wrote about with his help.

wrote about last week's super interesting tribal sovereignty decision in Washington Supreme Court

one justice wrote a standalone concurrence basically saying 'the court applied the law correctly, but also the law is terrible and it's our responsibility to say so'

A Washington State Supreme Court Justice Condemns Federal Indian Law as Racist and Awful
"Each time a court cites a case that has as its foundation such racist fallacies, it is incumbent on us to call out that racism, even if just in a footnote."

Also -- a cover letter is helpful. Especially if you're submitting a CV with no actual teaching experience.

But indeed: "why do you want this job" should be the main thing you address in the cover letter, followed by "why should I hire you"?

If you're putting in an application into my adjunct pool, and you already have what appears to be a job teaching/working somewhere else....don't you think it would be helpful to explain why you want to teach at my somewhat remote university (presumably online, but never specified in your stuff)?

🧪A good perspective.

Mothers from the 1950s, who saw how polio affected children's lives would like a word.

For every $ spent on the MMR vaccine, the healthcare system saves $13. Now, The direct medical costs of a measles case is $1793. This translates to $~1.79B/yr for Americans.
RFK Jr. says vaccines don’t save lives. He’s wrong
Now RFK Jr. is claiming vaccines don’t actually save lives. Here’s the math to show what he gets wrong.

The Trump administration is targeting nine left-leaning organizations as part of its crackdown on activism. Two are explicitly Jewish. If you include Soros, it's three.

The Trump admin believes the US left is one-third Jewish. forward.com/opinion/7755...
The Trump administration is targeting Jewish organizations — what are we prepared to do?
Even if you're not a fan of organizations like Jewish Voice for Peace or IfNotNow, you need to stand with them nonetheless.

I have been watching the devastating videos from friends and colleagues. Some folks are still missing in cold waters. The few news and info sources for locals are also the same ones being cut by federal funding. People should know this is happening
