Even if Putin follows Trump's request not to bomb Ukraine's energy sites for a week, it doesn't change the fact that he's bombed them for months, severely degrading the power system and leaving millions without heat, water, and power.

The AI philosopher getting dunked on does, in fact, have a PhD in Philosophy from NYU and has published and been quoted many times. The title is not (entirely) self-given.

For those who aren't familiar, philosophy is not immune to faddism, trends, and absolutely nonsensical bullshit.

We need prosecutions for political murders — that’s ultimately what these are — and truth and reconciliation commissions.

This is a fascist terror campaign against the people of Minnesota. As with J6, no one involved should be allowed near a badge or a political office ever again.
Initial report is that two observers got into a shoving match with eight agents, one observer was wrestled to the ground, and then an ICE agent pulled out a sidearm and shot the man on the ground five times.

ICE officers tell media that the conduct in Minneapolis is part of a plan by Stephen Miller to provoke as much violence and death as possible—which in turn will be taken as pretext for more. “They’re essentially operating now in a resource constraint-free environment and doing very dangerous things”
Former members of ICE say recent violence is "by design"
"What has changed is there has been an encouragement from the top to be much more aggressive in enforcement."

one of the strangest and most frustrating things about being alive today is that we have science and research on basically every issue, but it always gets pushed aside in favor of some guy who thought about it for one minute and thinks he knows the answer
Why is crime falling? We asked the worst and dumbest people in America to explain it

Genuinely I keep wrestling with how the Dem reaction to Trump went from pussy hats and a wave of women to "lol kneepads" and dudes doing kettlebell swings in their campaign ads.

It was literally nominated in every category it was eligible for.

That's an absolutely astounding achievement for an original *horror movie* released months ago.
16 Oscar nominations for Sinners. There are only 24 categories.

This dynamic is basically unchanged in the decades I've followed US politics. The right raises a bullshit bad-faith objection, Dems try to change policy to address it, the right just repeats the bad-faith objection, Dems try again ... forever.
So in the end, what does this article amount to? Republicans are telling the same lie about welfare that they've told for 40 years despite consistent efforts — including many led by Democrats — to restrict and police it.

And in response, Democrats should restrict and police it even more.

Does the modern Democratic party have any beliefs, ideals, or policy goals that aren't focused specifically on winning narrow elections with pocketbook issues? No? Then no wonder it's a husk of its former self.
NEW: In this interview, Chuck Schumer describes the "five buckets" Dems think are key to their possibly winning a Senate majority in 2026: housing, "the high price of food [and] food monopolies playing a major role there," electricity, "the high cost of childcare," and health care.
Zero Chucks Left to Give
Chuck Schumer now sees a path back to the majority. Can he manage his way through it?

Photo by Pierre Lavie. Yes this is me. And I threw my Leica. It landed on the bass plate with hardly a scratch. Another Photographer grabbed it along with my phone and I was able to track him later. I was held face down tear gas deployed right in front of me and pepper sprayed directly into the eye.

There was no movie theater in my hometown. We drove about half an hour to one of the towns that did. Sure, entertainment options have changed, but this is more Sarandos just completely failing to understand what it's like to live in a small town where you have to drive for anything.
