THANKS! It's a big, far-off goal, but I am aiming to get to 100,000 subscribers — free or paid — at Law Dork before the end of this Supreme Court term in June, so, that's what I'm looking toward these days! www.lawdork.com
Following you isn't even a choice, it's an imperative. Thank you so much for all your invaluable reporting, the world would be a far worse place without you.

I don't hate the Giants hiring of Tony Vitello at all. Might as well try something out of the box. If he fails then so what? The old way wasn't working either. High risk/high reward IMO:

If you're not already following Anna, why are you even on this site?
EXCLUSIVE: One Saturday afternoon in October, my phone lit up with a notification.

I glanced down at the message.

“Anna, Lindsey Halligan here,” it began.

So began my text exchange with the woman who is prosecuting the president's perceived political enemies.

Who robbed the Louvre? Right answers only.
I give Panetta a lot of shit, but genuinely good to see him at a protest
Great to be a part of a No Kings rally in our 19th Congressional District. There was a lot of people, energy, and unity that is needed now more than ever to not just fight back, but also to fight forward.
Almost double the turnout from June? Go Santa Cruz

Just saw some residents of the nearby retirement home standing out on the sidewalk, holding No Kings signs, if you’re wondering what the general mood is.

I started a block list for the new official Trump Administration accounts; I'll add more as I find them.

They keep insisting it's all about the idea, and actually expressing that idea is a trivial nuisance they can automate. No, the expression of the idea is the whole thing! The human expression of the idea is what gives it value. It's like Kramer's levels

And finding some piece of art that we can connect with, that lets us know yes, other people feel this way, is one of life's great joys. And that's why AI will never create "art" on cheap imitations, disconnected from the human experience that gives art its meaning.
This talk by Ethan Hawke is well worth a watch, and also does a much better job of explaining some of what I'm trying to say. We've all had times when we've felt alone, or lost, and just wishing that someone, anyone, understood how we're feeling.

Art is human expression. The reason we can connect to it is because it's made by other humans. It's an insight into their soul, what they were doing, how they were feeling. It's a way to see the world from someone else's perspective.
I'm aligned with @gruber.foo about 99% of the time, but I could not disagree more with his take here. His position is that you can separate the AI from the art itself, but I think that completely misses the point of what art *is*.

That's why I switched all my default search engines to DuckDuckGo. If you're like me and use search as basically a shortcut to get to certain pages, it works better 99% of the time, and for things that require actual research, which Google still wins at, just add !g to your search
it does not necessarily mean this though, because the dominant way people end up on Wikipedia is through Google, and Google has loaded the top of all of its search results with AI-mediated info taken from Wikipedia. This does not mean consumers prefer it this way, the choice has been made for them
AI is separating the production and consumption of information. If direct access to Wikipedia is dropping that suggests information consumers find AI mediated consumption more useful. This will impact the production of information; including the economic model
