during labor, my care team told me to "get mad about something" so that the anger would help me push out baby. I said "bet" and gave a lecture about our abysmal response to bird flu not a scicomm account but will do in a pinch 🦠🧪

Pittsburgh:

This chain employs a dude named Scott who runs an alt right website that hates every minority you can think of. They were told and refuse to do anything about it. Maybe eat somewhere else.

The coolest thing I’ve seen today is that a bunch of volunteer public health professionals and developers have restored the CDC website from before January 20th 2025.

This differs from an archive in that they want to rebuild the links between pages and replicate the full website.

writers think they're good at interpersonal conflict bc they are "clear communicators." but really they're just good at crafting a narrative that makes them feel better about themselves

It is worth paying close attention to the new bill "Dangerous Viral Gain of Function Research Moratorium Act" introduced by Senator Roger Marshall.

If enacted, it will effectively stop all of virological research, including for vaccines.

This is my “daughter of a Black Panther breakfast program volunteer” coming out but anyone who tells you that you have to be public about all your resistance activity should immediately be under suspicion for being an op, or being under the influence of an op

“I told you so” is just a little ego death it’s not planes falling out of the air or environmental disasters that pollute drinking water or tiny coffins for all the dead kids that childhood epidemics will wipe out. Anyone who prefers mass deaths to hearing they’re wrong is a terrible person

If they can’t handle the discomfort of “I told you so,” then they definitely aren’t ready to be part of an anti-fascist coalition, so this question truly answers itself
I’d stress that as infuriating as this might seem to those who were paying attention during the 2024 campaign, @normative.bsky.social is correct here. bsky.app/profile/norm...
In the coming weeks, a lot of slow-on-the uptake folks are going to begin belatedly realizing Trump is both an inept moron and a dangerous autocrat. Our great civic challenge in these trying times will be calmly welcoming them aboard instead of primal-screaming in their faces.

Fascinating profile of a park ranger in San Francisco who works with unhoused residents and has adopted the novel tactic of treating them like human beings, building relationships, and helping them access resources on their own timeline.
Her job is to remove homeless people from SF's parks. Her methods are extraordinary
Instead of forcing people out of Golden Gate Park, ranger Amanda Barrows helps them find housing.

I've been developing a semantic search tool that covers not just bioRxiv and medRxiv, but the entire PubMed database. This means you can search across a massive collection of biomedical research using keywords, questions, hypotheses, or even full abstracts. Try it out: mssearch.xyz

A Trump-Musk memo telling US government employees to hide what’s happening from the public is a sign that:

1) Public legitimacy is a constraint for them, they know it, and will at times alter their behavior accordingly

2) Reporters should focus on it, revealing more of what they’re trying to hide
Awful: Internal USAID memo instructs employees to refrain from talking to the media about cuts in assistance to the most vulnerable or they may get fired, WaPo reports.

Trumpworld knows this is a big political problem for them. Keep the focus on it.

Trump-Musk Scandal at USAID Takes Unnerving Turn With Vile Leaked Memo
Can Trump and his top advisers really just act with total impunity? Or is there, just maybe, a price to be paid for starving poor people and un-indicting a corrupt mayor?
