They're mediocrities furious not to be treated as special. It's why they believe minorities are being unfairly promoted over them. And yet every time they get the opportunity to do one of these jobs they're supposedly more qualified for, they either fuck it up or outright commit crimes.

Maybe I'm built different, but I don't understand why the abuse of public trust this represents doesn't warrant profoundly more severe punishment. These people committed their crimes under color of law; they should pay twice as heavily as someone committing the same crimes as a freelancer.

She is an absolutely ruthless politician. She has no sentimentality whatsoever, so she's unburdened by fantasies of reconciling with this GOP. Her concomitant weakness was always that she had no compunction about cutting deals with scumbags, but she now seems to have recognized that's not an option.

Yeah, exactly. It's not like Mills is a centrist, and at 77 she's older than is ideal, but hardly decrepit. If the voters think she has 6 more years of "see you in court" left in her, they should send her to DC. I like Platner too. A primary will clarify a lot.

I think they get the stakes, but think (probably wrongly! I agree!) that the best way to approach them is with the "safest" candidate they can find. But I also think one cure for that kind of terrible strategic thinking is a robust primary.

They put their thumb on the scale against Obama in '08. Didn't work. They put their thumb on the scale against Fetterman in '22 - also didn't work. They aren't actually very good at manipulating the scale, so I don't really care one way or the other when they do.
