Yeah, same here, on my Pixel, it's the default now that they did away with Play Music (RIP) and I haaaaate the YouTube Music UI. I'm already so fully entangled in the Google ecosystem that it isn't a concern ethically/politically to just start using YTM more, but I REALLY want to redesign the app 😣
jennadewitt.bsky.social
Apple is technically a solution for 1 and 2, but I'm not sure they are any better ethically/politically and I'm pretty mad that 2 requires a monthly payment now.

(I bought these songs from you over the last 20+ years! I've already paid you for them! I shouldn't have to pay again to listen to them!)
jennadewitt.bsky.social
The key problem I'm running into here is that I do not have unlimited income for this. I actually need to be spending less on subscriptions, so it needs to be under $10 total a month for both. It's getting complicated because #2 requires either paying for an app subscription or cloud subscription.

I'd like to get off Spotify after 12 years there. I've got podcasts on Pocketcast, and audiobooks on Libby/Hoopla, but I need:

1. a nonproblematic music streaming app with no ads
2. a way to play mp3 files on my Android from cloud storage w/ the option to download them for offline listening

Spotify platforms Joe Rogan and other right wing manosphere accounts.

They barely pay the artists.

There are plenty of reasons to boycott them.

Now they’re allowing ICE recruitment ads in their “commercials”.

They’ve bent a knee, and we should all cancel.

Spotify is now running recruitment ads for ICE.

It’s time to cancel your account.

Rest in peace, Miss Major.

The trailblazing transgender rights activist Miss Major has passed away at the age of 78.

Miss Major was a lifelong organizer and participant in the ballroom scene. She took part in the 1969 Stonewall Riots and was injured by the police — but she kept fighting.

Yes and we memorized addresses too

(And if you ever didn't know, you just looked it up in the Big Book Of Everyone's Personal Info that would literally be *dropped outside your front door*)

If anyone needs me I will be in the museum, lying down next to the bog bodies.
Did people really memorize phone numbers before cell phones, or is that just a movie thing?
2? Questions
I was watching some old shows from the 90s and noticed people would just dial numbers from memory - like they'd call their friends or family without looking anything up.
Made me wonder if that was actually normal back then? Did people genuinely have all their important numbers memorized, or did most folks keep a little address book or written list nearby?

Moreover, while not a *tool*, there are few more explicitly political *symbols* than the Eucharist, than communion: it is literally the inbreaking of God’s Kingdom into our midst, strengthening and binding the faithful as a counter-polity to witness against the death-dealing powers of the world.

'i don't like that they used the Eucharist as a political tool by showing up at the ice facility unannounced and expecting to be let in'

do you seriously believe this is the first time Catholic priests have tried to bring communion to ice detainees

I'm Side A because I've seen the good fruit when everyone is allowed to live out their own unique, God-given identities and vocations. Asexuality is a form of queerness that reveals anything is possible when we discard the narrow roles normativity would place on us.

The Lord's Supper celebrated at Broadview ICE facility. The request to bring communion to those detained inside was denied.

Like I know there are edgelord leftists out there who look down their noses at shit like No Kings but sorry you guys, the more mass protest looks fun and family-friendly, the bigger it gets and the better its chances of being broadly effective

Apparently there is a No Kings Protest scheduled for the 18th! In case anyone is late to find out like I apparently am!

And when we gatekeep that experience or don't support you, that's a failure of the community, not you. It's not for cis-het-allo people; it's for you to be welcomed home. Come on out into the rainbow light and shine in full color, unique to you and also part of the whole.

Happy National Coming Out Day! Remember: coming out is a reference to being formally accepted into society, in our case, the queer community. You are not confessing a secret to the majority; you're being inducted into a family.

Homeowners: "we pay too much in property taxes. We demand lower taxes"

Also Homeowners: "I can't believe how little this city does for us. Roads are in terrible condition, services are awful, and infrastructure is crumbling"

how do people not see the connection

Relatedly, I recall a lot of "the joy of canceling plans" jokes and memes from the 2010s and now folks are talking about a loneliness epidemic, and, well...

People will scoff at virtue signaling and then wonder why today’s billionaires don’t build museums, libraries, hospitals, and universities like Gilded Age ones did.

You put your right claim in, you put your left claim in, you leave the context out and you turn yourself about. You do the okey dokie and you pat yourself on the back. That’s what it’s all about
kevinmkruse.bsky.social
Collect a claim from one side, collect a claim from the other, present them both to the reader with an awkward shrug and a "who can say?"

And the photo choice -- Noem's looking down ... on what? The reverse angle showed a small crowd and a quiet street. But can't show that, it's biased to one side!

A classic case of irresponsible both-sidesism from the NYT. The story is that Trump and MAGA propagandists are lying about Portland to incite a conflict, not that there are different views of the matter.
