70% of the additional spending from removing the two-child limit will go to families who are in work. This is targeting support for low-income working households who are being priced out of a decent standard of living despite doing everything asked of them.

The "don't have an extra kid if you can't afford it" brigade get awfully upset when you suggest they don't stay in their £2m house if they can't afford it, don't they?

Deeply worrying sight in the corner of the office. Wondering if I can report it as an unattended item and get it blown up?

Bad news for anyone thinking of responding to the consultation on the new electric vehicle duty.

The consultation opens today, and closes last March.

BACURAU starring the late great Udo Kier now on MUBI.

Here’s a free month so you can watch it 👍🏻

I cannot recommend this movie enough if you're looking to honor the passing of Udo Kier. Trust me - you do not know where this movie is going until you get there. Such a great flick...
If you're looking for an Udo Kier film to watch, may I recommend BACURAU (2019), starts off like a worthy slice of sociopolitical realism and ends up as demented Brazilian neo-western exploitation. Don't read anything else, just see it. Contains one of my favourite film moments of the 21st century.

Cannot wait for GBNEWS and Nigel Farage to join the barricades about an arch Trump critic having his words censored by the BBC - they must be absolutely furious about this 🤔

I wish I didn’t have to share this. But the BBC has decided to censor my first Reith Lecture.

They deleted the line in which I describe Donald Trump as “the most openly corrupt president in American history.” /1

My favorite film of 2020, everyone should watch Bacurau. (And the director’s new film, The Secret Agent, is fantastic as well!)

There is no way you can guess how the thread that ends in this instant classic begins.

Despite widespread claims, there are not many mediaeval pubs still serving. The ones that survive are all inns. The best preserved is the New Inn at Gloucester. We know from tree-ring dating that construction began in 1432 and it was first mentioned in the records in 1455 🧵

Crypto fun: if you'd bought a load of ethereum, supposedly the future of crypto, in 2018 when it was still pretty new it has returned less than if you had bought S&P500. If you bought in 2021 during the last boom you'd be *down*, versus a 2x gain in the S&P 500 total return

A moment, please, to consider the absolute majesty of Daphne Oram's unbelievable score to this. A pitch shifted, time stretched, frequency agile glimpse of the future of music production; a liberty-taking all analogue remix of Sandy Nelson's Teen Beat realised in real time with the visuals.

“A vote for Labour is the only way to stop Reform”

Or

“Labour can actually do what Reform only claims it can do”

The government needs to pick one strategy, not both. The government seems unaware that voters can actually hear it trying both messages at once.

I’m not exactly anti-borders, as I recognise there is a theoretical point where immigration numbers present a logistical challenge, but I straight up do not understand the mindset that doesn’t take pride in people choosing to live in your country
