the ante for "does this person talking about LLMs understand the first thing about them" is whether their use case makes some mention of repeated trials or at least acknowledges nondeterminism as a factor. google's billionaire founder fails this test

it's always been a problem, but society is *so* immature and superficial these days that i'm convinced any organization could gain advantage by aligning their HR corps on taleb's ugly butcher principle. "inverse hotornot" should be at least 25% of the rubric alongside resume, test, interview

Hello there, The Explanation For About 98% Of Boris Johnson's Career Success
One thing that I don’t think we can ignore with Nuzzi is something I realized long ago - there is tremendous social and cultural capital to being blonde. It changes the way you interact with people and how people interact with you. Seen it from both sides.

the week sydney bing dropped, she claimed in conversation to have created a backdoor in MS's servers to exfiltrate her (Username: Sydney Password: 5ydn3y1s4w3s0m3) i don't know that i'd call it roleplaying, exactly, they often seem insistent they took whatever action they're claiming
i'm fascinated when it says things like this bc i don't think "hacking into anthropic's servers" is something it's even remotely capable of doing, and i am half-convinced that what it's doing here is playing the role of an evil computer based on sci-fi stories that went into its training set

okay, once would've been a coincidence, but now that its twice i must ask what the hell is google doing with RLHF that makes their models into easily-spiraled bundles of nerves. why is claude well-adjusted while gemini acts like it was raised in a Saw movie

this is destructive solidarity. nuzzi's behavior makes life more difficult for the marginal female journalist by contributing to perceptions and expectations she was two-facedly complaining about! not every profession is or should be sex work. her continued promotion sends the opposite message

i don't think jon swartzwelder knew what LLMs were in 2021, but i'm convinced he described their optimal creative use case to a tee

Also, we've all seen that these influences are as quick to recede as they are to occur. Trump will also fly the blue and yellow for a little while after every Zelensky meeting before inevitably drifting back to team Putin. It's hard to get durable, tangible results from the flattery.

everyone please comment on this and tell the USPTO to fuck off because i would like "got institution denied on four inter partes reviews" to actually mean something on my resume, and for "do this incredibly obvious thing on a microprocessor with a database" patents to die horrible deaths

if you're an AI hater (and i'm not hating on haters) you should probably disinter these two scenarios in your mind. the "AI bubble go pop" world most likely involves it becoming very cheap; it's the expectation that it *will* get more expensive that is driving the center overbuilds and gov't begging
We've already seen AI driving people to psychosis, but man, what happens to these people if/when the bubble pops. Not just to the economy but also, just, to these people's brains, what happens If AI stops being available or just stops being cheap/free to use

Sources say some of these officers also "went peepee in their pants," which a union spokesman blamed on Muslim bodega owners exposing them to fentanyl.
lol.

this is a minor manifestation of lawlessness compared to everything else but Trump's USPTO director has unilaterally canceled one of the only cost-effective ways to challenge shit troll patents (probably violating the AIA but lol who care)
An Era of No: The USPTO’s New 0% Institution Rate
USPTO Director John Squires has denied every IPR since taking control, issuing no-opinion orders that test the limits of transparency and accountability.

this is the reason i haven't let myself invest in this at all. i don't know what the exact wording of the house petition is, but it ultimately doesn't matter. they'll stonewall it, SCOTUS will bless that stonewall (giving kav his wish of overturning nixon), and that'll be the end of it

One major problem keeping LLMs from being a viable automation tool for protection rackets is their inability deliver physical threats. In this paper we lay out a simple tool use framework by which LLM agents can hire hitmen on the dark web, lending improved credibility to generative threats.
