Howdy, I'm Reach. I am a disabled artist. Here is my pinned that should answer all the questions you have about me and my art.

I love you. You be good. I'll see you tomorrow.
i think it's very funny that for two decades some of the least interesting minds on the internet were shitting their pants trying to figure out, once we made AI real, how do we make it not instantly turn everyone into paperclips. and it turns out the answer was "ask it politely not to"

You hit the mark: it is not a mere economic prediction, but consoling faith in a purge that will sweep away the sins of our fallen world bsky.app/profile/tedu...
Not sure which is more clearly a millennial religion

The belief that existing technologies are just the heralds and forerunners of “AGI”

Or the belief that existing tech is a “bubble,” a fraudulent Babylon whose millions of deceived followers will melt away like snow when its falsehood is unmasked

Are we at a point where capitalism feels so hopelessly entrenched that we think it's easier to kill a form of math? I'm glad that more of the conversation has shifted to stuff like UBI, a far healthier direction than "Butlerian Jihad Lite" or "Copyright 2: We Promise This Time It'll Be Good For You"

right the thing is that just when you run the numbers most american leftists have been raised in liberal-conservative, christian homes, and that sort of prosperity gospel lite stuff just tends to leak into your brain whether you want to or not (/value neutral). you have to unlearn it actively!
I think this is a deeper issue with left politics in the US as a whole. There is always some amount of influence from the anti-intellectual and system justification side. Weather the issue is sexuality or technology, American leftism tends to be influenced by conservative elements

the thing is that i think ultimately the section of my fellow political travelers on my side of the aisle that are anti-tech broadly are just sort of impotent and have no real power to shape policy. 5-10 years from now everyone will forget they were ever against ai in the first place. not worried.

If patriarchy, inequality, and violence are inherent to human nature, then let's surgically alter human nature until they aren't.

They want to uninvent AI and make it stop having ever existed and not be able to be recreated. (This will not happen)
What is the hypothesized political and policy end-goal, though?

There’s a whole lot of scope there, like I could think of—

Eliminate generative AI?
Eliminate OpenAI, xAI, and other entities?
Require royalties and/or licenses for training data?
Regulate gAI output?
Regulate data centers?

it's normatively bad in many ways and also clearly useful for millions of people. it can run on a laptop, thinking that it's going away is cope. gotta engage with the world at it is.
this is a bluesky bubble opinion. 800M+ people use chatgpt every week. I hate Facebook and Instagram and I wish they didn’t exist, but 3B and 2B people use them every month, respectively. it’s very hard to picture a mass or even a niche left backlash against them
i think tech and ai positive people are going to be in for a big shock when anti tech and anti ai sentiment becomes a major part of leftwing politics going forward especially as datacenters continue to destroy communities and raise electricity bills

by all indications “literally all of society mildly likes this abominable scam homunculus” is much closer to the truth. I don’t see how you can win if you are actively in denial about the reality you’re resisting

Is this platform still massively against AI or has it moved more towards acceptance?

bro copyright is so good for creators you can make something that's about to be turned into a huge fucking franchise directed by michael bay and some predatory company can take it from you for pennies and lock you out of it with legal threats

no actually it's not! if you're feeding it sources and using it to navigate those sources with credit then it quite definitionally is not a "plagiarism machine"

Spoke to my source familiar with internal workings at Mastercard. The holiday call campaign re payment processor censorship is working, there is a lot of pressure being felt from your calls. This is resulting in increased response times at a core moment for Mastercard due to the holiday season

this is a recurring theme I've seen. people think LLMs reduce the need for understanding of things and act like it. but every successful use I've seen has as a prerequisite a demonstrable and generally deeper understanding of the topic and objective

or, if you don't, you hit the wall at speed
