A bad thing happened. It was traumatic. People lost their lives and livelihoods for a while…

So we tried to bundle it into a box in the past like any other traumatic memory…

but the objective risk is still quite bad…

There are studies showing damage to blood vessels… even in kids…

I’m not saying that we need to get paralysed by fear… but we do need to deal with this, the way we deal with smoking (a shared dirty air problem) or TB (a multisystem airborne infection that needs control).

There are thousands of studies showing the long term health risks to people posed by COVID-19.

Any rational person would look at this data and pause for thought.

I think we aren’t doing that because we aren’t very rational at the moment.

(and i think it is a demand that stems from fear more than a rational assessment of the threat environment)

You don’t have to provide information if you don’t know…

BUT

YOU DO HAVE TO EXERCISE PRECAUTION!

Asked about providing guidance to schools re #LongCovid Gavin Williamson suggests providing no information was better than incorrect information. It appears this extended to not even confirming its existence leaving families we support subject to disbelief and fines #CovidInquiry

Eventually, we will have standards and codes that get implemented (that's key) for ventilation, filtration, UV to ensure a quantifiable risk level. Until then, personal filter (mask) is prudent esp in crowded spaces & healthcare.

Which part of wanting to minimize the number of COVID infections in one's lifetime baffles you? Seems like basic common sense. Get boosted to reduce acute severity & odds of organ damage and Long COVID. Mask up to reduce COVID in 1st place. Not rocket science.

COVID-19 is “Airborne AIDS”: provocative oversimplification, emerging science, or something in between?

These articles often came from apologists at the @NYTimes and elsewhere who are mesmerized by the right's claims that liberals aren't liberal enough: they must move the bounds of acceptability to embrace the far-right. The Ezra Klein-Charlie Kirk bromance is one such example.

1)You may remember the articles criticizing liberal students for their hesitancy to make friends with conservative students—alleging that they were less open-minded than their conservative counterparts.

Up at @dartmouthcollege.bsky.social for a symposium honoring the former Surgeon General on the occasion of the publication of a new biography. The theme: Moral Courage in an Uncertain Time. We certainly need moral courage at this moment. From all of us.

Sounds familiar, South Australia currently has an oceanic algal bloom that is killing everything, fed by a flood from the Murray River a few years back that carried nutrients from agricultural runoff. Currents have brought the sediment to the surface in the last year plus warm ocean and no wind = 💣

THREAD. When my parents' cat Bridget went missing, my dad, to try to ease his worry, painted her on a variety of historical adventures. These soon multiplied. Significantly.

After much nagging, he has had some postcards printed of this brilliant series:

According to a new study
by Yale researchers
Covid-19 continues
to be driving a large number
of work absences,
which is an important reminder
that it is not the case
that people are “quiet quitting,”
rather it’s the case
that this virus just won’t quit.
