On latest #Lamestream, @osmanfaruqi.bsky.social noted Kerry O'Brien's truths on Gaza. Os makes a point that few in mainstream media would acknowledge:

A cruel joke that Dreyfus expected to be "a global champion for human rights" when he failed to uphold international law on Israel and the #GazaGenocide.

But a small amount of sympathy for a former minister ousted by the supremely talentless Richard Marles. #auspol

Much of O'Brien's speech was about the need for greater press freedom, less government secrecy and real protections for whistleblowers.

But all that is pointless, if major mainstream news organizations are doing self-censorship,
with editorial direction outsourced to the Israel lobby. #auspol

IMPORTANT: “I boarded Montreal’s brand-new light metro line for its first voyage. From the front of the driverless train, the crowd got a privileged view…The journey was not just a tour of the REM’s 14 new stations, however—it was a preview of the most ambitious transit expansion in North America.”

Albanese has form.

As well as the #FOI insult, his govt has done nothing on promised #whistleblower reforms, and the #NACC is knackered.

Several parliamentary inquiry reports [eg on gambling advertising] have been ignored, and others [like #AUKUS] have been set up to *avoid* scrutiny. #auspol
@albomp.bsky.social’s #FOI Amendment Bill, the most significant attack on government transparency ever, will likely die quiety in the first sitting week of 2026. His hypocrisy on open government will live on. #auspol

But no more spectacular than the impunity Netanyahu and Israel already have for apartheid, genocide, war crimes, torture and crimes against humanity.
