Our society is so allergic to showing gender non-conformity that even with characters that are known for that non-conformity, there's often a "remedial" confirmation of gender roles in other ways for that character, as if to "make up" for it.

Sorry to be even Radicaler Lefter but I don't think we should even have the societal construct of crime that allows for anyone to be kidnapped by the cops saying they did crimes then charged by prosecutors who agree they did crimes to be trafficked & locked inside an actual cage by a judge

Specifically the logic of colorism is about the complexion of the *protagonist*, the character through whose lens you view the story and whom you're meant to 'identify' with. In shoujo, the main girl is usually the color of paper. In shounen, the main boy is also the color of paper.
men being dark-skinned in this genre is nothing to remark upon, because dark skin is associated with masculinity. it's *women* being brown that is unusual. her women outside of Anthy are Ms. Ultra Pasty as far as the eyes can see
