When I was 7 or 8 I my grandfather said to me SCOTTY, THE BEST THING ABOUT BEING A BOY IS THAT YOU CAN WRITE YOUR NAME IN THE SNOW.

BTW, Grandpa was a Mormon bishop. 😁👍

I swam there a couple of times as a kid. It was fun (the lifeguards patrolled in rowboats!), but the changing room was colder than Chicago in January 🥶

Fleishhacker Pool closed in 1971 and was demolished in 2000.
Opened in 1925 near today’s SF Zoo, Fleishhacker Pool was once the largest outdoor salt-water swimming pool in the world. Fed by the Pacific, it featured dramatic diving towers and could hold thousands of swimmers at a time.

Pauli Murray imagined justice as expansive, not restrictive. As a Black, queer, gender-nonconforming legal scholar, poet, and priest, Murray’s legacy reminds us to keep widening the circle, especially for those most pushed to the margins.

Fun fact: at the height of "tulip mania" in the 1630s one Semper Augustus bulb was worth the same as a nice house in Amsterdam, or several acres of land.

The striped tulips were diseased (the Dutch called them "broken," though they didn't understand the science yet).
Rare Semper Augustus striped tulips crown these flowers arranged in a glass vase by Elias van den Broeck, whose day is today.

Used in a sentence:
“History will remember him not as a venerated leader, but as a doddering rampallion who mistook vice for virtue, cruelty for kindness, and his own pantaloons for a privy, leaving behind nothing more than a sebaceous smear and the stench of his inimicitious infamies.”

I'm one of those dog park gay guys (in my own group of dog folks) who lived through it (I'm 71 and still alive somehow) and I can't endorse this strongly enough! 👍✊

My favorite number by far from that stellar Sondheim concert at Carnegie Hall, for anyone who hasn't yet seen it and fallen in love.
