Mom was stylish even in a maternity smock. That's me with her in 1957.

Here she is in a newspaper ad for a dry cleaner.

Mom had a brief career as a model in the early 1950s. We only discovered these images after her death.

My mother the teenage beauty queen (center stage), flanked by her attendants (late 1940s).

She kept that crown her entire life; I remember both my sisters playing dress-up with it.

My great grandfather in 1904, just prior to taking ship for an extended visit to England and Scotland. He's wearing a stylish yet sober new frock coat.

This news anchor has eyebrows like 1940s Joan Crawford and I am OBSESSED/REPELLED 🤣

My father's parents were married on this date in 1919, shortly after my grandfather returned from serving in France in WWI. She was very up-to-date with her bobbed hair and he was obscenely handsome.

I have postcards he sent her from France; I also have his wedding band and his pocket watch.

Wow, you've made me dig up this one of my little sister and me. TV in our city only had three channels though!

According to Dr. Johnson we are not civilized. And I agree.

Me, offering snacks to my superhero dog Dottie (in her doggie wheelchair) and her canine pal Buddy, on a recent sunny day.

Today is stormy and Dottie will not be pleased if she's not able to go out later this morning without getting rained on, and I'll be in the doghouse. 😬🤣

My father in uniform during WWII. The unknown woman was likely one of his many girlfriends (he didn't meet my mother until after the war). #VeteransDay

My neighborhood weed emporium is a great place but I was confused to see, from down the block, what looked like a big green dildo in the window.

Turned out it was the folded-up umbrella they set up outside (to protect the security guard posted at the door from sun/rain).
🤣

The new building under construction at UCSF looks, at night, sort of like a cruise ship beached itself on Mount Sutro.

A friend told me last night that he's considering a new drag name: Beaver Moon.

I, natural diplomat that I am, refrained from commenting on this development. 😬😅

This comment on Burchett's dumbass pronouncement has me cackling like a Hooterville hen 🤣👍

I went to #vote this morning and as always Dottie got to proudly wear the sticker.

In other news, I have been faced with the fact that I am a pathetic old queen: a handsome young fireman appeared at the firehouse where I voted and I became utterly discombobulated in front of the poll workers. 😭🤣

🤣👍

I had one of those "esprit de l'escalier" moments as soon as I posted when I remembered that I had this perfect gem in my meme folder. 😅

Dottie and I have a couple's costume this #Halloween: The Ride of the Valkyrie. (She's the Valkyrie and I'm the ride, as in I push her stroller.)

"Where's Waldo?" I hear you ask. Well, I spotted him this morning at the California Academy of Sciences in Golden Gate Park, San Francisco. #Halloween

I'm going to cheat a bit: the "film noir" Broadway musical CITY OF ANGELS opened in December of 1989 but the album wasn't released until 1990.

Anyway, the music is luscious, evoking late-1940s Los Angeles, and the lyrics are smart and full of cynical wit. Got the Tony for Best Musical in 1990.
