He said it was really good to hear that one of his dispatchers was able to help and to know that the help was appreciated by the public. I get the feeling they don't get a lot of calls like this (it was hard to figure out WHERE to call), so if you ever have a 911 angel on the phone, say thanks!

As a small followup to this, on Thurs I called the Seattle Fire Department and they connected me to the dispatch captain's VM so I could heap praise on the calm-voiced 911 man who talked me through CPR, and the captain called me back Fri so he could make sure he passed my gratitude to the right guy!

In social movement studies, we talk about how marches and protests expand the threshold of acceptable risk so that people take more and bigger social risks IN PUBLIC, EN MASSE. This is extremely important for the bourgeois white folks holding signs and building social rapport.

I actually called the fire department and they were able to get me the voicemail the chief in charge of 911 dispatch, and he called me back today to get details so he could pass my praise along to the dispatcher who talked me through everything! I would bake that man a whole-ass pie if I could.

I already do rewilding volunteering through a local non-profit (the leader of which is the one who told me about the Forest Steward program) and that's great, but having ONE site that I get to fix up MYSELF and then admire over the years? Be still my plant-loving heart!

Recently learned that there's a Forest Steward program in my city and if I apply/am accepted I get assigned a little work site in a neighborhood park and an allotment of native plants to plant there once I've removed all the invasive species, and everyone shut up, this is all I'm gonna talk about

Absolutely no one is doing it like me at the volunteer forest restoration events, probably because no one else habitually sees the worst, most uncomfortable place to work, asks, "Is anyone gonna bury themselves in that?" and doesn't wait for an answer 😂
