It's not easy being a disabled person who is getting more disabled every day it seems. It's not easy being a queer person who has to talk about misogyny all the time. It's not easy just being a person under the age of 35 in this country.

I think I did my communities proud.

And I wouldn't change a goddamn thing 🔥
saycheeselouise.bsky.social
Actually, that's one of the things I love the most. It has panels representing Georgina Beyer! Eliana Rubashkyn! Carmen Rupe!

And it now it's in the middle of the Hamilton CBD, making a space that hasn't always been safe, more welcoming and including and queer!

My debate on Māori wards has been viewed more than 100,000 times - AND WE FUCKING KEPT THE MĀORI WARD!

We'll have a predator proof fence at Waiwhakareke Natural Heritage Park!

Oversaw the first upgrade to the transport centre in 20 years and crowd funded to have a sculpture of queer history there!

We got an art in infrastructure policy across the line! We got a tree fucking policy across the line!

We did accessibility audits of all of Council's facilities!

We put in pedestrian crossings outside of 10~ of our schools so it's safe for kids to cross the road!

I got to speak at the hīkoi!!!
saycheeselouise.bsky.social
We reduced Council's carbon emissions by 20%

We put in 50 new bus shelters and curb cuts in the last 12 months

We now have a disability advisory panel because I pushed for it

We'll have shade in 30 playgrounds in the next 5 years

Our regional arts org and two theatres have guaranteed funding

I wasn't sure before, but it's good to have clarity on whether or not I am a cunt. Box ticked.
saycheeselouise.bsky.social
Perfectly okay to not be elected, if I'm honest ✌️
saycheeselouise.bsky.social
No, I'm not. I'm trying to give some context to how the thing works that you were confused about. I'm merely explaining the mechanism - and if you wanna shit on someone who's already had a hard day, go for it. It's actually not my job to do this anymore.
saycheeselouise.bsky.social
You actually don't want to force the councils to keep the current arrangement foreved because it could also be improved upon further.

But the representation review is normally internal and does not require another referendum for anything.
saycheeselouise.bsky.social
So the current referendums are binding for the next two elections, good or bad. After that, they're included in the review that ALL wards are subject to. Because you might have had an increase in people on the Māori roll and want to add an extra councillor!
saycheeselouise.bsky.social
It's useful to do that because if you're seeing massive population growth in particular suburbs or you want to add local boards or rejig boundaries, that's the chance to do it. Most of the time, very few changes happen.
saycheeselouise.bsky.social
Just to add some clarity. Councils are required to do a representation review every five~ years. That reviews whether the Council make up (all wards, number of councillors, etc) are still the best fit for the population and geography. It does not mean you would have a referendum every five years.
saycheeselouise.bsky.social
But! We've kept our Maaori ward.

The biggest fuck you to this government.

Hamilton results.

Governance lead called and said they received 6,000 votes today, they don't include specials, and they are not confident in today's results.

Here's what I know:
Lower Hutt, Whanganui, Nelson, Masterton, Rotorua, Whakatāne all keeping their Māori wards

The candidates who have been standing up at candidate events a month ago saying they're running cause councillors DON'T ANSWER EMAILS and they WON'T ACCEPT FREE TICKETS TO THE WIGGLES are now ratcheting the nastiness up a notch.

Go re-organise the fridge again, my dudes.
saycheeselouise.bsky.social
But there are some candidates seriously crashing out rn - their spouses are trolling every comment section, others complaining that councillors sharing reporting that their ticket is conspiracy aligned (to put it nicely). Apparently sharing a Stuff article is an unacceptable use of our influence.
saycheeselouise.bsky.social
This time, I'm just bored. I spent three years in this rigid routine of agendas, briefings, meetings, and decision making. Give me an agenda to read or I'm going to re-organise the fridge, AGAIN

If I'm not elected, that's fine. I'll go get a job where I don't get death threats. I win either way
