I was actually talking to someone at an IoD event, about predator control and invasive species - and they said to me "maybe with AI we'll be able to come up with solutions for pest plants"

And I told them about this tradescantia work. We don't need AI. We need to fund science and community groups.
Some good news for a change: the beetles and fungus introduced to control Tradescantia actually work, sometimes spectacularly. This is a game changer: this horrible plant smothers huge areas of forest floor and is a pain to eradicate by hand, regrowing from the smallest fragment.
"A kahikatea forest remnant site in north Waikato has seen a near complete disappearance of tradescantia after the leaf beetle, stem beetle, and smut fungus all established there between 2019 and 2021. This site is now seeing recovery of native ferns and tree seedlings."

Each to their own but to me, asking hard questions and getting to the crux of an issue is what being a politician is all about. It puzzles me that you'd outsource that, when isn't that what you're there for?
Safe Labour seats continue to yield a procession of incompetent Dunedin MPs, govt challenge nonexistent.

The people of Taieri yearn for someone who can send a fucking email without it ending up in the Otago Daily Times www.odt.co.nz/news/dunedin...

So, when I was in Australia I got gastro, then myopericarditis

Three days in hospital, they wanted to do an echo cardiogram but the earliest was a week later - two days after we would fly home

Just been to the GP in NZ, which was a three week wait. Likely to be months, if not years for an echo 🫠

Small win of the day: brand I follow started rolling out AI generated ads - left a comment saying "hey, love your product love your ethos, but I'd prefer my money going towards paying real illustrators, not feeding the art-theft-carbon-emissions machine"

The ads disappeared!

You know international day of disabilities is coming up cause I got asked if I'd thought about an anti-inflammation diet

"no, I think medical science will cure my myocarditis, not eating more turmeric"

German twisted cast on is so much fun. Long tail? Boring, vanilla, always estimate wrong. German twisted? Delightful, looks good, never dull.

Our neighbours - a single mum and her young daughter, who hadn't been moved in all that long - delivering us a small basket of Easter eggs which had been hand decorated and had a little card in it.

Such a small gesture but felt like a lot in the chaos of the early days of the lockdown.
What's a charming memory you have from the worst period of the pandemic?

Ah McCain, he's done it again
Thread time.

These proposed local government reforms are being reported as the end of Regional Councils but actually they're probably the end of a lot of rural and smaller district councils in New Zealand. Not sure what I mean?

Ah yes, the real problem with local government: that people don't know the difference between city councils and regional councils.

That'll solve the infrastructure deficit, the unfunded mandate, the poor behaviour, and the scapegoating from central government. Well done, boys!

And I can't emphasise enough how much the harassment doesn't stop when you leave.

I lost the election and people were still calling me a cunt.

On here, someone in my replies said I didn't care about Maaori wards, that I didn't get to be upset about the election and I wasn't disabled (!)
The abuse Julie Fairey copped after being HIT BY A CAR is exactly what happens when we treat online harm as background noise. Women in politics bear the brunt, especially women of colour. Until NZ actually regulates platforms properly, this will keep happening #nzpol
