The transparency project that went dark: Inside the collapse of Bryce Edwards’ Integrity Institute
A million-dollar political integrity project has imploded with little transparency, revealing a tangle of broken promises, stalled research and an institution unwilling to explain what went wrong.

You deserve softness.
You deserve a break from being strong.
You deserve to love yourself.

Look at the sky.
Smile.
You're doing great.

It's only a matter of time before humanities departments will be forced to accept AI-authored assignments, as part of revised university policy to cooperate with these billionaires. It's already happening, and our response needs to be decisive. Because our students' ability to *think* is at stake.

This thread is interesting reading.

It's part of why I just refuse to engage with LLMs even in situations where I belive they could be helpful.

I'm genuinely frightened that it's having serious effects on people's cognitive abilities.
And I don't know if the answer is: everyone is too traumatized to do work and we need to reinvent society. Or if it's more like: generations are losing their cognitive abilities and willpower due to destructive technologies. Or: we all have post-viral brain damage. Or: all of the above.

As I was alluding on this platform about a year ago over a refreshing bowl of Maggi Soup, embedding advertising in natural seeming conversations is pretty inevitable when extracting maximum value from the systems where there are no consumer guard-rails around quality or truth.
The end goal of advertising is to make it indistinguishable from one’s own wants and needs. That aim is finally going to be realized very soon.

I especially feel this when sociologists who study technology do this.

Y'all are supposed to take sociotechnical approaches to the study of technology. A throwaway AI-generated image does not help that credibility.
I don’t know if anyone else notices or cares, but when I see a presentation in which the speaker uses obviously generated-AI images to illustrate their slides, it makes me immediately less confident in whatever other content they’re presenting.

Managers give lower performance ratings to teleworkers than to office workers, even when holding performance constant.

Female teleworkers face an even greater disadvantage.

Aspirational, inspiring leadership looks like refusing to equivocate on the absolute bare minimums for people to survive.
It looks like immediately backing vulnerable communities instead of refusing to out of fear of antagonising a base that doesn’t exist.
It’s getting out of the middle of the road.

Warm homes are not aspirational.
Affordable food, power and rent aren’t aspirational.
Health and social services that centre health and people are not aspirational.
These are not inspired ideas. They are basic, 101 hallmarks of a functioning country.
Leadership that gets that *would* be inspiring.

Reflecting that the list of policy many might call aspirational or inspiring is desperately needed, bare minimum policy, and we need leadership to call it that.
