It's that horrible damp cold in Te Whanganui-a-Tara today, the graveyard clamminess that seeps into your bones, that creeps under your clothes, the feeling of mould edging its way, silently, into your lungs, the wooden shack miasma that never quite seems to dry out

And if you do have a smartphone, I'm sure they'll take it as an admission of guilt if you don't have email, social media etc on it
Yep, they're also proposing to make it so that you cannot get ESTA without a smartphone. They'll get rid of the functionality on the current website and require you to use ESTA Mobile.

Don't have a smartphone? Well, the answer will apparently be "tough luck, you can't come to the US through ESTA."

Quite frankly, there's an awful lot of us Americans saying, "for your own safety, please please don't come here. It's too great a risk to your own health and freedom."

And we do, sincerely, mean it just like that.

Keep seeing tour announcements by comedians I like where they're all "AUSTRALIA AND NEW ZEALAND, I'M COMING TO SEE YOU! COME TO MY SHOWS!", and then it's a bunch of dates in Australia and one night in Auckland.

We could say the same about the UK royal family, but we do at least force them to do military service
something you have to understand about Trump & his weird comments about the economy is that the dude hasn't paid for anything like a normal person in decades - never pumps gas, never buys groceries - so he's completely & utterly out of touch with what life is like for most of us

he has had personal servants and assistants to do *everything* for him, to a degree that even a lot of equally rich people don’t, since entering adulthood, and he insists on doing things himself that other rich people understand they should pay experts to do.

If NZ Labour does pursue this route of Centrism but a tiny bit Left, perhaps under the impression that NZ voters will be exhausted by more drastic change, I worry that what's been broken by this current coalition will never be fixed enough for real progress to be built on top of it.

What's that? Greens up almost the exact number that Labour are down? Maybe Labour should stop shitting on their natural allies
New Taxpayers Union/Curia poll out:
Labour - 31.6 (-1.7)
National - 30.0 (-0.2)
Greens - 10.8 (+1.6)
Act - 8.9 (+0.3)
NZFirst - 8.3 (-1.0)
TPM - 3.1 (-0.2)

Centre right 61 seats to 59 Centre left

Notable for Greens up, not sinking as in 1News poll

What spurred Don McGlashan to tell off Chris Bishop at the AMAs?
"I turned around and said, 'Shut up, you dickhead.' And then he looked at me and said, 'What'd you say to me?' And I realised who it was."

SCOOP — Gregg Phillips, a conspiracy theorist with no emergency management experience who helped produce the election-denying documentary ‘2000 Mules’ with Dinesh D’Souza and has faced numerous legal inquiries, has been named head of FEMA’s Office of Response and Recovery.

My story:
Conspiracy theorist election denier given FEMA’s second-most important role
Gregg Phillips will lead the Office of Response and Recovery, “the heart of what FEMA does.”

How does this not count as a Party Political broadcast? A current RW finance minister 'debating' RW finance policies with a former RW finance minister, using the minister's time (and our money) so she can somehow justify the fuck up she's overseen
This is a good illustration of how empty the right's formulation of "debate" is. According to Willis, debating these ideas with Richardson wouldn't change anything, but would signal that one of them can land more zingers than the other. No one thinks this would change policy.
Willis denies claims of sideshow over Richardson debate on government spending
Labour says the government needs to be focusing on the issues not a "public duel" and "flexing".

Australia has had solar subsidies for so long that some of my Aussie colleagues are eligible for a second round of upgrades because it's been ten years.

NZ meanwhile, we can't have nice things. It might upset the status quo.

Schoolboys were obsessed with Hitler? Possibly. But I remember us being obsessed with the song about him having one ball and war comics about him being punched. Critically, while we sometimes had "Nazis" in our playground games, they were always unquestionably the bad guys.

Wellington has NZ's cheapest homes, Herne Bay still the most expensive suburb
But an Auckland suburb has suffered the biggest fall over the past five years.

First up, a set inspired by the delicious designs of William Morris and John Henry Dearle.
