I remember being annoyed when Wieldy disappeared in series 8.

Not killed off / went to live happily ever after with his sculptor. Just gone.

I assumed it was because they wanted to hide the gay man - but I looked it up - the actor was diagnosed with MS and passed away in 2017.

RIP David Royle.
