I definitely feel for them. I mean yeah, they're nd wealthy, top of the class ladder etc, but it must be tough to go to work daily in an utterly corrupted institution that *cannot* be fixed by resigning or reporting it etc. All you can do is hang in there and yell dissenting opinions to the ether.

I think one issue with these guys is that, from the messages, they are internet forum trolls in real life. They were molded by the nastier sorts of chatrooms where "irony" and shock-value is prized, gives social standing. So people merely being horrified and disgusted by them is just grist to their-

That's a very vague handwave in the second paragraph on how they've solved the problems inherent in artificially generated online personalities encouraging destructive parasocial relationships that occasionally end in detachment from reality, murder or suicide.

Oh good, ChatGPT is getting "erotica for verified adults" later this year

We made ChatGPT pretty restrictive to make sure we were being careful with mental health issues. We realize this made it less useful/enjoyable to many users who had no mental health problems, but given the seriousness of the issue we wanted to get this right.

Now that we have been able to mitigate the serious mental health issues and have new tools, we are going to be able to safely relax the restrictions in most cases.

In a few weeks, we plan to put out a new version of ChatGPT that allows people to have a personality that behaves more like what people liked about 4o (we hope it will be better!). If you want your ChatGPT to respond in a very human-like way, or use a ton of emoji, or act like a friend, ChatGPT should do it (but only if you want it, not because we are usage-maxxing).

In December, as we roll out age-gating more fully and as part of our “treat adult users like adults” principle, we will allow even more, like erotica for verified adults.

As for the canisters, look, it might, physically, work but it's something the average person foolish enough to try it is only going to try once. At least a street cone doesn't require grabbing it.
