My standalone Arthurian novel, The Cleaving, is a frankly incredible 73p in ebook this week from Amazon. I explore this familiar story from the perspective of the women involved. It's a chance to try my work without committing to a series. Offer ends Sunday 8th Feb

(seen a bunch of people sharing this/talking in general about how "normal" Mamdani is but imo this doesn't show a normal person, but an *exceptionally* skilled communicator - a normal person wouldn't react like that to having a speech interrupted by a child! give him his due!)
Child at the podium: “A woo woo woo.”

Mamdani: That’s how I felt when we came up with this plan. Together, we will expand the idea of what is possible in our city—and what sounds and noises we can make at a press conference.

The thing that drives me most crazy about the pearl-clutching over the "adult humour" on #TheMuppetShow special is that in the 70s and 80s, people understood that you can get away with "dirty" jokes as long they go over the kids' heads, and now everyone is an absolutely miserable loser.

Rewatched A Mighty Wind last night and "A Kiss at the End of the Rainbow" and the climactic kiss between Catherine O'Hara and Eugene Levy absolutely destroyed me. The way Catherine was the heart of absolutely every production she was ever in.

Other ones off the top of my head: Brett Goldstein, Cynthia Erivo, Ariana Grande, Kathryn Hahn, Audra McDonald, Jinkx Monsoon, Cole Escola, Jake Shears, David Tennant, Olivia Colman, Tituss Burgess, Ana Gasteyer, Rachel Dratch, Dan Levy, Annie Murphy, Kylie Minogue, Manny Jacinto
If #TheMuppetShow gets picked up, they need to get Jonathan Bailey and Jane Krakowski on the phone immediately.

The most annoying people online today: The new Muppet Show has adult humour, not like it used to be!

The Westminster Dog Show paid tribute to Catherine O'Hara's beloved 'Best in Show' role with a sweet tribute to the late actress during the dog competition.

This letter is brutal; I’ve been so impressed by Zack Polanski and the Green Party. This is what we need.
Mandelson’s malign influence runs right through the heart of this Government.

Not least in the govt’s NHS data deal with Palantir – a spy-tech firm co-founded by a man who thinks the NHS should be ‘ripped up.’

I've written to Wes Streeting urging him to ditch this dangerous deal.

I legit think you'd have to be a total loser to not be able to find happiness with all the money and resources in the world.
it’s genuinely reassuring to me that this is the most miserable and paranoid person in the entire world

#TheMuppetShow special also nails the very specific Muppet Show versions of the characters, which is distinct from their Hollywood personas. For ex, this isn't genuine-movie-star Piggy. This is Muppet Show Piggy who isn't actually all that but thinks she is. That's CRUCIAL.

I was also a bit worried about Seth Rogen's involvement on #TheMuppetShow due to not loving how Jason Segel's film was mostly about his own attachment to the Muppets, essentially making it a therapy session for himself. But Rogen takes the backseat because he knows the Muppets are funnier than him.

And this! Terrific cameos from her and (while he's not usually my fave) Seth Rogen.
I also really loved Maya Rudolph. She fit in so well!

Another crucial thing #TheMuppetShow special gets right is that the human guest is just that, a guest. Sabrina Carpenter gets some fun moments that show off her talents/chemistry with the Muppets but she only has 5-8 min of screentime, as on the original. They're the stars, she's very fun backup.

Finally received a UK release date for my Wicked: For Good steelbook preorder from HMV, and it's in March, my birthday month, which just feels correct.

Not as correct as it being out already as it is in the States but I can cope.

#TheMuppetShow special on Disney+ is fantastic. It nails the energy and chaos of the original, while also bringing lots of new twists that feel updated and fresh. Most importantly, it's not too reverent. It lets the characters be as insane as they should be*.

*unlike some other Muppet revivals

Deleted a post about “what’s your least favorite song” because the vibes are bad enough already.

Instead: what’s your favorite song that has a long title, say at least 6 words long?

Mine: “Elderly Woman Behind the Counter in a Small Town” (Pearl Jam)
