I guess it's intro time, right?

Name's Rob. I'm primarily a programmer (gameplay &UI), but I'm also big into exploring gaming's past - which I do by making videos about them.

Looking forward to meeting cool folks!

If you want everything I'm up to, it's all here: https://linktr.ee/hellfire64

A quick one for those who care about the channel shenanigans - next vid is done, just gotta finish the thumbnail, and then I'll release it to supporters.

That'll either be my Thursday evening or Friday, depending on how I feel once I get home from classes.

Thanks for your patience with all that!

Repost with a photo of yours that would make a good album cover.

This shot of a roo from a window at early sunset gives a unique feeling for sure.

This is horrendous, yet unsurprising.

Caught a snippet of the police side on the news this morning - as always pushing the usual claims, but man, I was already suss about them, and reading this confirms it.

Utterly senseless and cowardly.
"This was planned. And Chris Minns owns it ... I was there".

Andrew Brown with the extraordinary story of NSW Police brutality at the Herzog protest.

While the premier - to great applause - said "Thank you friends" to the Israel Lobby.

By 1986 there wasn't much room for complex simulations at the top of the UK games chart. Then along came MicroProse, and a submarine combat game by a designer who Commodore User referred to as 'Sid Mayer'...

And ready now for everyone is this piece on Compile's FDS shmup, Zanac! It's unique, and reactive, and incredibly ambitious - and the end result is a somewhat vague and isolating experience:

Slaving in front of compy on warm days isn't the best - but managed to get first draft of next vid together.

Going to proof it over the next few days, and hopefully get it up to Patrons before homework duties kick in.

Relieved to have gotten this done in a day, makes short term plans workable. 🤔

I want to believe.

(In other words, I think they’re telling porkies.)
At SAGE this morning, Big Ant Studios COO Mark Bracken suggests you can go and get a games degree and walk into a video game job.

"Now is the easiest time to get into the industry" he says.

Had Orientation today and it's been interesting.

The big (bad) news is that I have a packed timetable, on campus three days a week for Feb/Mar/April, going up to 4 days for May/June.

Factoring in homework & stuff, it means the next few months of Scanlines will be tough to squeeze in.
As for 2026, I honesty don't have a real sense of goals or anything.

I'm going back to studies in Feb, in the hopes that might help job wise, but other than that, most of my energy is just treading water, and that honestly makes planning beyond a few weeks at a time tough.

Nothing warms my heart like getting an email from the folks responsible for one of the projects you're a fan of saying thanks.

Especially when a lot of what I do flies under the covers, feels like it only resonates with a silent audience - hearing that it's appreciated really helps morale.

📈 @godotengine.org is having a good run!

#Godot is now firmly established as the #2 engine in game jams (correlated by #GMTKJam data), rapidly closing the gap with #Unity.

Honestly, ~this~ is the version of Roguecraft I'm most excited to play.

Kind of feels right to enjoy it there considering its predecessor was for the C64.

New thing from my and honestly, it should not be a surprise that my anticipated games list goes off kilter.

This was kind of tough to do for me - finding cool smaller games planned for release is a challenge, and I'm finding myself less interested in most AAA things.

Pulling out this C64 copy of "Sky Shark" from the shelf for #RandomGameSaturday.

This US release is a stronger conversion than Flying Shark which got in PAL territories.

Which is no surprise tbh, as it was done by Software Creations based on the strength of their take on Bubble Bobble.
