Some of the kids returning to school in the Amna Learning Centre, Gaza. Three new tent classrooms will be added in the coming days. This initiative is possible because of the volunteers with Dignity for Palestine, the brilliant Perth Doctors and the tortoise shack. Let me know if you want to help.

Your annual reminder that the most revealing difference between Irish and Scottish Gaelic is definitely in the words for December: Mí na Nollag (Month of Christmas) in Ireland, and An Dubhlachd (the Blackness) in Scotland. So once again may I wish you all a lovely Blackness.

ALL you have to do is just not use it, tell these companies you aren't using it, and make fun of people who do. We need a mass collective effort to make genAI extremely uncool, lame, embarrassing, cringe. Everyone needs to react to it with a MOUNTAIN of hostility until they run out of steam.

Sure, they've made an environmentally catastrophic mass hallucination disinformation plagiarism Clippy that will destabilize the world, but also their other goal is to replace human workers entirely and let us humans starve. A boycott of AI is the most important boycott of your entire life.

A man sought out by world leaders & rock stars, who was hired by Brad Pitt to teach him how to paint, spent a year making 18 portraits of Troubles victims for free. They are a silent rebuke to our government and our society.
This artwork is a silent rebuke for all of us… too scared or insensitive to recognise NI’s often ignored victims

Yes! Expert systems have their uses, but we've run a test, now, of ChatGPTness in the wild, and it was a disaster. Not a single good has come out of it, save that people who don't care if work is good or bad can now produce crappy work while they attend to their crypto accounts.

And I don't know if the answer is: everyone is too traumatized to do work and we need to reinvent society. Or if it's more like: generations are losing their cognitive abilities and willpower due to destructive technologies. Or: we all have post-viral brain damage. Or: all of the above.

The Health Protection Surveillance Centre (HPSC), which monitors the spread of communicable diseases in Ireland, has recorded a 42.6% increase in the number of flu cases this week and a 50.7% rise in the number of hospitalisations of people with the virus.
