They've done it again, they've cut more rail projects. The most criminal one for me is cancelling the reopening of the Waterford-Wexford/Rosslare line. On the left is the All-island Rail Review published by the last government and on the right is the plan published today.

I mean I am *really* struggling to see why this is a bad thing (aside from an organised FG capitalising, of course)

Fianna Fáil HQ has washed its hands of Castlebar and apathy is endemic within the party's county town membership.

Fine Gael, of course, arduous defenders of Irish sovereignty - such as when they unquestioningly implemented Troika austerity, and ratified Ireland's joining of CETA at 1am, allowing private corporations to sue us for protecting our climate, jobs, etc.

Probably time to point out that the government has in all likelihood already promised lobbyists and foreign powers to do away with the triple lock and spend billions on war matèriel, and now all that remains is to manufacture consent.
This is all part of that process.

My car broke down away from home during the week and I had to get it towed to a garage with which I'm not familiar. Collected the car, it seems to be going well and I wasn't ripped off... but I think the garage guy might have nicked my big rainbow umbrella. It's vanished.

I hope it brings him joy 😂

Every time I open this app I feel more scared. Apart from wrt women's health, I've never felt unsafe in Ireland. But reading about facial recognition legislation being shoved through makes me wonder how far this government is going to erode our rights and therefore safety w/out someone shouting stop

What would happen if a foreign army occupied Shannon airport? What a strange concept! tis hard to figure out what would happen if a extremely militarised nation with notions of empire decided to use Shannon. The idea is so wild and out there.
Oh.. right...

The Govt have announced they plan to pass the Facial Recognition Technology Bill through the Dáil on the last sitting day before Christmas. They’ve also removed most of the safeguards the legislation had at earlier stages and widened the scope of use.

This is really awful news. Local papers are, among other important community-related things, vitally important when it comes to holding local government and officials to account. They are disappearing (or being taken over by awful companies) and we will be all the worse for their loss.

It can and it will, because no-one is stopping them
Israel shot 6-year-old Sundus Hillis in the head. Then, its blockade prevented her from getting proper medical treatment for her injury.

Israel cannot continue targeting children with impunity and then purposely depriving them of medical care.
Israel shot my little sister during the Gaza ceasefire
Sundus was not lucky enough for the world to condemn her shooting or even to get proper medical care.

Great thread
CC Patrick O'Donovan
For politicians flirting with schemes to protect children online, you will need to answer at least these questions for me to take you seriously:

- What specific harms are you seeking to mitigate?

- What scientific evidence have you that suggest your proposal will be effective? Please cite.

This must be the prelude to CETA, ask it after Simon and Micheál to ram it through at this hour of the morning!!
Scandalously at 1am, the government has just pushed through a law with far reaching ramifications.

It allows them to sign up to a parallel court process only accessible by corporations. There they can sue Ireland if we do anything to interfere with their "right" to profit.

Patrick O’Donovan went out on the national airwaves with a half-baked, bad set of ideas about linking access to online spaces to our PPS numbers.

If he had these ideas himself, it would be a Christmas miracle.

But in fact, they are the Zuckerberg lobbying aim across the world.
