Her. Yer woman. You know; the one with too many books, a mad cat, and an online footprint that wanders back to the usenet days. Northern Irish.

Your annual reminder that the most revealing difference between Irish and Scottish Gaelic is definitely in the words for December: Mí na Nollag (Month of Christmas) in Ireland, and An Dubhlachd (the Blackness) in Scotland. So once again may I wish you all a lovely Blackness.

I learnt everything I could about his condition, cerebellar hypoplasia ("wobbly cat syndrome"). It's caused by the mum having a virus called panleukopenia during pregnancy. By coincidence that virus is RAMPANT this year -- expecting many wobbly cats in the next few months.

5 years ago today, Pandemic Year. It had been a month since I opened my "side project" (lol) cat rescue in the spare room of my flat in London.

I saw an ad for a male kitten with "balance & walking problems" who urgently needed a home. And so it began. HAPPY SMOL PAUL DAY!

Yes, Jared Diamond was wrong.

Rapa Nui's people did not suffer ecological and social collapse. They adapted to changed circumstances and thrived.

And they were nothing like "primitive"

Studies show how the giant statues on Rapa Nui were made and moved—and what caused the island's deforestation
Rapa Nui, also known as Easter Island, is often portrayed in popular culture as an enigma. The rationale is clear: The tiny, remote island in the Pacific features nearly 1,000 enormous statues—the moa...

"Never spread the lie in the headline" should be a hard rule of 21st century journalism.

Research shows that repeating lies helps to spread them, and people read headlines more than they read stories.
News media has to do better with headlines that present false and unverified public health claims.

Huge respect to the papers for finding both an 88 year old worried about the tax bill on her 6 bedroom Kensington house and a 20 year old fretting about only being able to save £12k a year tax free.
Top work all around. These are not easy case studies to find.

The creation of fake 'advocacy groups' that displace genuine voices at every level of society from Supreme Court hearings to Westminster, from broadasting to accessing funding.
