That’s an old picture. I look much worse now.

Smart enough to know I’m stupid.

I cannot stress enough that I have only ever wanted to be a good guy in a bad world if you ever wonder what truly “radicalized” me.

I only want to be a man my son can be proud to call Dad cause I didn’t have that growing up.
Back in the day when I had dreams of being a pro wrestler, enrolled in a school and everything, my entrance music for the character I envisioned for myself would have been My Hero.

Imo the best way to express this as a rule of thumb is “do you eat any meat more than three times a week” and if your answer is yes you’re (nutritionwise) better off than like 80% of all people who ever lived
I went over the 'grain wage' conversions, which are more relevant here: bsky.app/profile/bret...

In calories, a modern minimum wage worker has something like 17 times Cratchit's buying power.
A good example of why direct inflation adjustment of this sort is more deceptive than clarifying when applied over very long stretches of time where consumption patterns are very different.

Basic foods (bread/grain) probably devours a third of Cratchet's income, but not the modern worker's.

It was bracing and intimidating to face her, but in the times I had the chance to do so—while working at Asian CineVision, writing at the Village Voice, and running A. magazine—I learned a helluva lot.

Rest in passion, Chris. You will not be soon forgotten, and your voice will continue to carry.
Every time I saw Christine Choy, she yelled at me—shouting praise, criticism, advice, advocacy; abjuring, exhorting, complaining, exulting. She always lived life with the dial turned to 11.

There does not exist a hot dog suit big enough nor a face eating leopard ferocious enough to serve as an adequate metaphor for Chris Rufo complaining about right wing media becoming conspiracy addled click bait
Chris Rufo literally was a core figure in boosting a lie that Haitian immigrants in an Ohio town ate pets. He offered a bounty for “information” after the lie was repeatedly debunked.

Spare us the navel-gazing nonsense.

Part of the right wing sales pitch was "Liberals are annoying" but they quickly proved they are infinitely more irritating, it's not even close
we all got cowed into avoiding "virtue signaling" as if the public affirmation of socially agreed upon ethical principles was somehow cringey instead of a significant part of what a "society" even is. now all there's left is vice signaling, and it's reshaping society.

My answer to these is always just that they’re bad and/or dumb:

House of Sand and Fog
Monster’s Ball
Crash (Not Cronenberg’s)
The Happening
Dreamcatcher
Transcendence
Never mind movies you’ve watched multiple times, name a movie you’ve watched once and would never watch again.

Oh, if DC was still publishing GHOSTS, there's a story.

Guy gets a simulation of his dead mother that's kind and supportive, and it pisses off the ghost of his actual, more complex dead mother that she shows up to object.

I don't know how it ends, but I'd read that.
My grandmother didn’t own a computer or a cell phone. She’d get mad if my mother bought jars of sauce instead of what one gets to make sauce. Safe to say she would come back and haunt me over this.

Can read this as "candidate quality doesn't matter, but Collins retains a high floor," or you can read it as "both candidates are low-quality, & if any of the strong governor's race candidates entered the Senate primary they could clean up"

Collins vs. Mills
🔵 Mills 43%
🔴 Collins 43%

Collins vs. Platner
