I don’t think people actually realize how wildly maximalist Jewish writing is. Like, the classic example is people saying they’ve read Talmud when Talmud is this:

The real question is not "Why is Bluesky so left-coded," the real question is "Why can't the right exist in a social media environment without algorithmic assistance, where people can ignore them"

I named my fists Florence + the Machine because when you meet them you'll just be another ship to wreck.
I named my fists Master and Commander, because together they’re gonna send you to the far side of the world.

My uncle owned a (pre-direct market) comic book shop in Detroit in the 1970s, and he would bring home stacks of unsold comics with half the cover cut off. Whenever my brothers and I would visit we would get to bring some home with us. On Halloween, we'd give out comics instead of candy.
Tonight my father-in-law asked me why comics used to sometimes be missing half the cover. I said they were probably being sent back from newsstands, prompting a story of how, in the mid-to-late 1940s, he and friends would find piles of comics like that in open boxcars and take them to read.

I just read an entire article about Teen Vogue, its politics, and its demise -- without one mention of Lauren Duca. Seems crazy to me?

SCENE: A dark alley. In the corner, a man lies beaten unconscious. As we approach, we see wears the uniform of an ICE agent. “Who is he?” we ask. We look up, and see, spray-painted on the wall, our answer:

SOME PIG

This (from an article in @thenewrepublic.bsky.social) points at a pet peeve of mine, but still gets it wrong: "orders of magnitude" is about *powers* of 10, not *multiples* of 10. Think 10, 100, 1000, not 10, 20, 30. newrepublic.com/article/2027...

How about we shut down the government for this very popular and specific goal and then, hear me out, we hold out for like a month and a half and then, ok this part is important, after a watershed election where we ran the table, ONLY THEN, fold and don't get the one thing we said we wanted.

The original Dem demands were:
1) Permanent ACA subsidies
2) Medicaid funding restored
3) No more blank checks for the regime (rescission)

They dropped Medicaid immediately. Went silent on rescission. Cut back to 1 year of subsidies on Friday. And surrendered today.

The Senate Democrats!

I called both Peters's and Slotkin's offices and left angry voicemail messages and shortly after that they both voted no, so you're welcome
The single solitary good thing is it does look like we’re getting organized enough in Michigan that both of our senators started off yeses and part of this fucking secret team and they both backed out.
