In 2004, Parisian police were conducting a training exercise in the french catacombs and found, after moving past a desk and a tape playing audio of snarling dogs, a fully functional movie theater and bar. When they returned 3 days later, the equipment was gone, with a note: “Do not try to find us.”
Members of the force's sports squad, responsible
- among other tasks - for policing the 170 miles of tunnels, caves, galleries and catacombs that underlie large parts of Paris, stumbled on the complex while on a training exercise beneath the Palais de Chaillot, across the Seine from the Eiffel Tower.
After entering the network through a drain next to the Trocadero, the officers came across a tarpaulin marked: Building site, No access.
Behind that, a tunnel held a desk and a closed-circuit TV camera set to automatically record images of anyone passing. The mechanism also triggered a tape of dogs barking, "clearly designed to frighten people off," the spokesman said.
Further along, the tunnel opened into a vast 400 sq metre cave some 18m underground, "like an underground amphitheatre, with terraces cut into the rock and chairs". There the police found a full-sized cinema screen, projection equipment, and tapes of a wide variety of films, including 1950s film noir classics and more recent thrillers. None of the films were banned or even offensive, the spokesman said.
A smaller cave next door had been turned into an informal restaurant and bar. "There were bottles of whisky and other spirits behind a bar, tables and chairs, a pressure-cooker for making couscous," the spokesman said.
"The whole thing ran off a professionally installed electricity system and there were at least three phone lines down there."
Three days later, when the police returned accompanied by experts from the French electricity board to see where the power was coming from, the phone and electricity lines had been cut and a note was lying in the middle of the floor: "Do not," it said, "try to find us."

See, I started by putting together the framework for a battle system and I've come up with some conflict stuff to justify that.

Getting an urge to design a monster tamer sort of game.

Not *entirely* because I want an excuse to release a supplement that's nothing but different kinds of slime, but not *not* that either.

I mean, Bleak Spirit is very much my love letter to Dark Souls and was inspired by my DS3 playthrough.

Crucible is inspired by my favourite roguelikes: Dungeons of Dredmor and Stone Soup.

If video games frequently disavow their TTRPG heritage, we can at least proudly own the fact that TTRPG work is deeply inspired by video games. Most of us have an origin story or two.

SLAYER CAKE is inspired by Brütal Legend.
"Something to Drink With That, Sir?" inspired by dys4ia.

What's yours?

Would also play this variant.

Although I reckon you could write an essay on how in Stardew Valley you *are* functionally a messiah come to save this town.

Free game idea: Stardew Valley but you're a mechanic instead of a farmer.

And I vividly remember a man from a more prestigious department mocking one of his colleagues who was pulled to do data entry with "That's what you get for being multi-skilled."

My first real job was doing data entry for a bank, and around the 1st of the month it would get super busy and everyone who knew how to do data entry would be pulled off whatever they were doing to do data entry.

All I know is that I had a bunch of perfectly functional VBA running a dashboard using resources on the network drive, then we moved everything to Sharepoint and it became exponentially harder to keep operational.

Gushing reviews rolling in for Absolum. Not surprising - that demo (still available) was really damn good, and pretty replayable to boot.

For those unaware: Roguelite (Hades-esque) side-scrolling brawler from the gameplay team behind Streets Of Rage 4, paired with French animation studio Supamonks.
