I don’t get the sense that most Republicans are governing with an eye towards elections. Like, they might know voters outside their hardcore base exist, but are just making little or no effort to appeal to those people for…reasons

sigh, yeah. I guess the theory/very faint hope is that because Trump at least operates with financial/reputational self interest in mind, he will be better — or at least not worse — than a rapid ideological Zionist like Biden?

It turns out that a President who takes bribes is potentially better for peace than the norm. I am not being sarcastic

IMO it’s unclear whether modern Republicans are more ideologically inclined to Nazi shit than the Bible/country club types of yore, or whether they’re just more inclined to express their preexisting Nazi views. Probably a mix, tho the turn from Romney to Trump was hilariously rapid and total

Republicans, externally: the left causes political violence by calling us Nazis

Ezra Klein: so true

Republicans, internally: we are Nazis, we love Hitler and being Nazis

tbh there's a real difference between a young republican and a Young Republican. if the former doesn't recoil from interaction with the latter, though, it's immaterial.

Also, why insist that the Republican Party (of Goldwater, or Buchanan, or Reagan, or Dubya) has changed? Why not just say when I was young/sheltered/naive, I was part of an organization that at best tolerated racism, but I have changed? Kind of troubling!

It’s weird that the line is “when I was a Republican, they weren’t racist—being a Republican has changed” and not ”when I was young and naive/sheltered/whatever, I was a Republican despite the party’s racism—fortunately I’ve learned/changed.” Why insist on the former

As a persuadable moderate swing voter, I was excited to vote for Kamala Harris. But then I saw that leftists didn’t like her, and I just trust and respect leftists so much that I stayed home

Imagine thinking Trump was a sea change in the right wing‘s beliefs and not just them becoming aware they could say what they believe and still win

Every time a Democrat gets caught on tape saying like “Some Trump voters are racist” we have a national scandal and JD Vance demands an entirely new kind of apology and meanwhile every Republican group chat is like “Good morning fellow SS members. Who’s ready to respect Hitler today?”

POLITICO: “.. They referred to Black people as monkeys and ‘the watermelon people’ and mused about putting their political opponents in gas chambers. They talked about raping their enemies .. and lauded Republicans who they believed support slavery.

at this point it would be interesting journalism if someone could locate a Young Republican groupchat that was not full of overt Nazis

damn, turns out the refugee kids who were hyped as "starving" during a war of ethnic cleansing wherein the denial of humanitarian aid was weaponized against their community ACTUALLY had pre-existing conditions due to being born in an open air concentration camp that exists for Unrelated Reasons
