Gold caught an overnight bid. Hearing some people are dipping in. Dovish Fed, blah blah.

Here's a chart with price action from the last 10-days.

Classic lower highs, weakening bounce.

Whatever. It's a chart.

This was my view back on May 11th and still my view now.

The narrow window for a cut was in June.

Oh see that 6500? 😂

Dave Cervantes (@pinebrookcap.bsky.social ) is one of my fave people on FinTwit, and we've had an offline and ongoing conversation about macro for quite some time. (He can confirm how often I'm wrong.)

Nice to share some of that convo with the rest of you!

Lots of folks very excited about the foreign vs USA trades, which has been a home run YTD.

This was explored in the newsletter back in Feb, and published on 2/19 the day SPX made its local peak.

Good reminder that I should spend more time here.

That other place has gotten so toxic and gross.

Lots of talk on the other place about the bond market. Won’t repeat here. Look up the usual suspects.

My take is nominals are a fear trade rn 🧵

Only in America could an immigrant like Jensen Huang—who started by cleaning bathrooms, washing dishes and attending a state school—meet Curtis and Chris at Denny's, get VC funding and cofound the world's most consequential company Nvidia.

Immigration is America's superpower.

“We become engineers so our kids can be artists”…..

As a first gen, college was the big hope.

Now I am telling my kids to be DJs in Tokyo or something. It’s their priv and they should exploit it.
If you’re an immigrant or come from a middle class background I think there’s a lot of value in chasing that 800 math SAT and pursuing a high-paid STEM pressure cooker life…but the beauty of America is you only have to do it for one generation, it shouldn’t be a perma-goal:

Ok the 2025 outlook raised a lot of questions.

Those questions were perhaps best enunciated by
@dampedspring.bsky.social who provided very constructive critical feedback, which prompted the follow up note to explain my thinking.

Following today’s PPI numbers, core PCE inflation is likely to print 0.14% m/m in Nov - lowest m/m gain in 2024 @nicktimiraos.bsky.social

Also, not concerned about claims. Today’s jump mostly due to seasonality. Tracking the 2019 nsa data very closely.

Lots of inflationary hate on the other site. This is a feature and not a bug that the people losing money don’t understand.

The Fed WILL tolerate some short term inflation vol as a matter of policy.
