This is extremely troubling. The UCP are becoming increasingly authoritarian. They are dumping Doug Wylie, likely because he intervened, in the public interest, in the AHS CEO lawsuit. edmontonjournal.com/news/politic...

Not even hiding the blatant entitlement anymore.

The Premier's Office continues to remove all checks and balances on its power.

The courts, the legislature, the Auditor General, independent agencies, the federal government, voters and candidates they don't like...

This is getting ridiculous.

Don't be fooled by the UCP's Bill 6.

Screening ia already happening. It's the psycho-ed testing that schools, boards, and the government refuse to fund.
A screener can tell you there's a deficiency. It can't tell you what that deficiency is or what to do about it.

Part of a general UCP policy of gutting or defunding (or in some cases both) accountability mechanisms. We see the same thing in access to information where inadequate funding leads to delays & dysfunction as demonstrated by @drewyewchuk.bsky.social in many @ablawg.bsky.social posts.

Today Elections Alberta requested $13.5 million to be able to administer recalls and referendum.

The UCP committee in charge revised their request to just over $1 million.

And then voted it through.

The UCP just defunded recall/referendum.

Sigh. Teen Vogue politics has been a bright light in the darkness. And not just for teens.
I was laid off from Teen Vogue today along with multiple other staffers, and today is my last day.

certainly more to come from me when the dust has settled more, but to my knowledge, after today, there will be no politics staffers at Teen Vogue.

I am sure that this is for cause... And the cause is that Wylie is investigating the AHS procurement scandal.

NDP MLA David Sheppard says Doug Wylie wants to stay on two more years. Wylie is reviewing the allegations of inappropriate health contracting.
Incredible - the UCP are sacking the auditor general investigating the UCP government on allegations of corruption in private surgical contracting

“Lukaszuk is hoping the government chooses to adopt it as policy and avoids a province-wide vote.

Going straight to a referendum would be the nuclear option. He wants the government to save the province from a “divisive, prolonged referendum campaign.”

For those looking for a Coles Notes version on the Supreme Court’s decision, they actually published a brief on it.

It explains their rationale and links to the full decision, if you have the time to read that, too.

Spoiler for an upcoming piece. I often hear people dismissing Canada's housing crisis by saying, "Mike, home prices skyrocketed everywhere, it's not just a Canada thing".

Turns out... nope. It really is a Canada thing.

Making addiction, homelessness a crime when it’s really the result of abandoning provincial responsibility, collapsing mental healthcare, housing, jobs, & human rights. Don’t be surprised by privatized jails, hospitals & police—it’s for wealthy oligarchs & required when ignoring citizens #PetroState

...sometimes we get early snow in October of September, but that melts off.
Once we hit November 1st, that's the point where snow starts to hang around.
Although in 2024 the airport made it to November 22nd without lasting snow, and 2023 got to December 3rd.

Reporters should be asking Dr. Diamond (ACA CEO) and Minister Jones to answer for these increasing cases of worsening access to care...

They'll both try to defer back to "AHS"... but the solutions are in workforce/capacity/and integrated load levelling... which AHS can't do
