Pro-choice; pro-dismantling racism; anti-fascism and anti-totalitarian rule; anti-releasing CO₂ to the air (I'm fine with renewable fuels & sequestration); and pro-human & LBGTQ rights. If God is Love (She is), then ACT LIKE IT.
I love this! 💚
This print by contemporary Black artist Fred Wilson combines a 16th c engraving of the biblical Queen Esther (who saved the Persian Jews) & a photo of Harriet Tubman, who obvs brought many enslaved Black Americans to freedom, then was a scout/spy in the Civil War & an activist for women's suffrage.

But I agree with Scalzi, one of my favorite authors and social commentators.
Nothing about these massive media mergers is great, but of all the options, this was the best case scenario, as long as Netflix still does, in fact, keep WB largely separate and with full theatrical releasing. HBO Max might go the way of the dodo, however.

It’s Official: Netflix to Acquire Warner Bros. in Deal Valued at $82.7 Billion
The streaming giant's proposal includes a $5.8 billion breakup fee and promises to maintain Warner Bros. current operations, "including theatrical releases." Theater owners are already speaking out.

With the tools we have today, no one should die from #malaria.

But cases are rising again. In 2024, 282 million people were infected and 610 000 died, mostly young children in Africa.

⚠️ Drug resistance
⚠️ Conflict
⚠️ Climate shocks
⚠️ Funding gaps
are stalling progress to #EndMalaria. 🔗bit.ly/3Y6IcXn

Maybe another way to think of it is as the "participation line" - the income one needs to fully participate in expected aspects of US life without worrying about plunging into deprivation one way or another

BREAKING: A federal judge has thrown out the criminal indictment of James Comey, ruling that Trump-installed prosecutor Lindsey Halligan was illegally appointed and had no lawful authority to bring the case. The court found her actions violated federal law and the Constitution’s Appointments Clause.

There is a post circulating on Bluesky encouraging the moving of a frozen turkey straight into a pot of hot oil. We are combating this misinformation the best way we know how - through the power of dance music.

Accurate, but I despair of explaining this to those who feel first -- and have had their xenophobia and racism triggered by those who use our far right to enrich themselves -- and only think later, if at all.
We can’t lose sight of this:

When people lose insurance because Republicans failed to fund health care tax credits for the ACA, EVERYONE’s insurance goes up.

Doesn’t matter if you get health insurance on your own or through your employer.

I really hate it when scientists keep saying that “we need to rebuild trust in science,” because it implies that scientists are to blame for the mistrust rather than the millions of dollars of dark money that have funded political attacks on science in order to advance a far right agenda.

In Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, 162 years ago today, President Lincoln gave one of the most famous speeches in American history, extolling the sacrifices of the men who died in the battle there. There are five known manuscript copies of the Gettysburg Address. The Library of Congress has two of those.

Of note.
This is the reporter that Donald Trump called "Piggy." She is Catherine Lucey, currently with Bloomberg.

I don't think it is a coincidence that, back in 2018, Lucey was the first reporter to ask Trump about Stormy Daniels. Trump responded with a lie, but, clearly, did not forget the question.

If you think that this should be normal in the U.S., then I'd like to ask you to leave. In my opinion, neither citizens nor residents nor guests should fear being "disappeared" without warning.

And don't feed me any BS about "following the laws"; OUR LAWS FORBID DISAPPEARING PEOPLE LIKE THIS.
This is America today. It doesn’t have to be this way.

The strike is not about whether or not you approve of Starbucks coffee. It's about the workers, who like all workers deserve equitable treatment and fair pay. That is the issue. Why bring up your personal feelings about the coffee? Nobody in this conversation cares. Start another thread about it.

I mean, kinda makes sense...

(Why would they want that? Hell if I know. Why have they been so transphobic, as well? Does not make sense to me - unless someone there wants another era of Yellow Journalism - but what do I know? Look at all the billionaires who opposed VP Harris, as well, I guess.)
It’s wild how TV told us that conspiracies were shadowy and hyper-competent and in reality the only conspiracy was that the NYT editorial board really wanted Trump to be president so they just… ignored all the e-mails the notorious sex trafficker kept sending them about his pedophile friend.
