The kōtuku on neighbour's roof, the kākā everyone kept sighting in town, everyone on our street at the end of their driveway at dawn on ANZAC Day, bike rides with family calling out "bubble one" "bubble two" so we knew we were all together, Jacinda saying the Easter Bunny was an essential worker...

But there are Known Knowns.
We know there are rumours.
We know people in National are spreading them & discussing them with journos.
We know Bishop has been accused of being behind it, & that some in National want us to think it's all over and Luxon rinsed him.

These are Known. Not much else is.

I'm honestly fed up with the "I've had calls from *so* many people" BS excuse. So I was easily motivated by BHN last night to lodge an OIA on this. And may well do so every time a minister from this government uses it.

Honestly you're not a real Marxist and are just an unserious Puritan if you think that it's revolutionary to ask people to work for you for free in a system where that "for free" doesn't come with a UBI or free food, housing, and healthcare for the worker

I don't care what the calendar says, it feels like summer because this week I've already had to release at least 10 bumble bees from their window prisons.

He got a lot of money to do nothing more than support what the Government wanted to do to Kainga Ora - gut and decimate - he’s got more than skin in this game imo - and the money he got was taken from emergency housing. They literally unhoused people to pay Bill English. #nzpol
Govt paid Kāinga Ora reviewers out of urgent housing fund
Cabinet ministers dipped into an unexpected and unlikely fund to pay the costs of the new review into Kāinga Ora and public housing, reports Tim Murphy

Maybe at the elected member level, like any elected roles. But RCs employ many highly-qualified scientists, land/ emergency management professionals, transport planners, etc - who does this work & where does this workforce go if RCs get axed? You'll miss them when the next flood/disaster strikes

So ... the government just forced us all to have referendums on *existing* Māori wards because Local Communities Deserve Choice, but now they're unilaterally abolishing our regional councils because they don't like the Choices we made?
November 25, 2025 at 5:34 AM
I'm sorry, I know I grew up in a weird place but I can't get my head around the idea that central government can just eliminate regional councils in NZ. I feel very scared by this. Is it as bad as it sounds? Because it sounds fucking bad. #nzpol

Just a friendly reminder as we go into the holidays:

Folks don't have to explain to you why they don't drink.

If you offer them a drink and they decline, don't ask them why. It's not your business.

Just offer them something without alcohol to drink instead. And move on.

It’s wild that the tradition of singing anthems before sports matches started with a Wales v NZ rugby match in 1905, as the Welsh wanted to drown out the haka.

The haka is a longer and more established tradition than pre-game national anthems. 🤯 No more moaning that the AB’s should stop doing it.

Just in case you're wondering how the NZ cookers are doing, today my colleague told me she has a friend who has been taking Ivermectin daily since Covid and thinks all the flooding is due to cloud seeding so "they" can take land. What they want with unusable flooded land is yet to be established.

Nuzzi is not a journalist, she's a political operator who gets hired by journalistic outlets under, charitable to the outlets, false pretenses

Lizza has known this for at least a year, probably more than 5, and chose not to disclose it until now. He's just as bad

I've been so out of touch that I only just found out Nigel Latta died several weeks ago. 😔
I wish there were more people in this world like him not because I think he was perfect, only that he was always trying his best to be empathetically authentic. We need more imperfectly empathetic humans.
