“Orlando had become a woman… Their change of sex, though it altered their future, did nothing whatever to alter their identity… but in future we must, for convention’s sake, say ‘her’ for ‘his’ and ‘she’ for ‘he’.”

Virginia Woolf having no problems with pronouns in 1928.

Looking back at this and seeing a Labour government choosing option 3 in the most petulant manner possible…

…because this Labour government is determined to be worse than Thatcher for LGBTQIA+ people.

He’s flagging that 🇬🇧 is in breach of it’s obligations with the result being:

1. They change the approach

2. They lose when this gets to the ECHR

3. The 🇬🇧 leaves the international human rights body we imposed on Europe to stop the rise of fascism happening again.

The #RiverClyde heading for #Greenock looks really atmospheric & beautiful this morning.

Like the approach to #Venice in "Death in Venice" fine, foggy mist lingers softening the landscape. 💝

I brought my gloves, definitely autumnal 🍂!

The continued enshittification of the internet is so sad to watch. This place used to be cool!

👍Google plummeted from grace so fast it was breathtaking. It was very sad. Why would you not want to be known for due diligence and a true fetish for accuracy of the data returned? Bonkers.

Join us for a free online session, on 30th Oct @ 2pm, to explore ways your organisation can be more inclusive – What is an intersectional approach and how can you do it on little to no budget? What does “accessible” really mean? Can we really include everyone?

Scottish Courts take #Perjury very seriously: it is pretty fearsome. In this case; proximity [2021] would have been in the minds of any legal person such as Barristers & the like giving evidence under Parliamentary Oath to not lie or otherwise attempt to mislead.

Murray attended two days of Alex Salmond's trial in 2020 and wrote about the court proceedings on his blog and on Twitter.

He alleged that the Scottish National Party leadership, the Scottish government, the Crown Office and police conspired to convict Salmond on charges of sexual harassment and attempted rape.

The judge in the case, Lady Dorrian, had issued an order forbidding the publication of the names of the women who testified against Salmond, or other information that might identify them.

In March 2021 she found Murray to be in contempt of court after he published information that in her view could potentially lead to identifying some of the complainants, and sentenced him to eight months' imprisonment.

In June 2021 she refused Murray's application for permission to appeal to the Supreme Court, saying that there were "no arguable points of law arising" in his appeal.

Murray appealed directly to the Supreme Court but his application was refused on 29 July 2021.

Murray announced that he would appeal to the European Court of Human Rights and surrendered himself to the police on 1 August 2021.

Alba Party MP Kenny MacAskill called Murray's sentencing "vindictive and a sad day for Scottish justice".

Murray was released on 30 November 2021, after serving half of his eight month sentence.

In March 2022 the Appeal Court of the High Court of Justiciary refused his petition to quash the finding of contempt along with the prison sentence.

P472 hides in plain sight, the media & GC MSPs consistently ignore it. The trick was placing those who had free reign to give their representations direct, face to face to the Exec Committee of the Scottish Parliament MSPs under a Parliamentary Oath; attracting Perjury penalties. Whole tone changed.

Happy International Pronouns Day!

Using the right pronouns is essential in respecting people, and can help trans people feel seen.

Here’s a quick guide to pronouns.

#InternationalPronounDay
What are pronouns?

A word that stands in for a name to avoid constant repetition of that name, often this is gendered.

He/him is often used by men. She/her by women, and they/them pronouns are used by many (but not all) non-binary people. Other non-binary pronouns exist such as ‘ze’, ‘sie’ and ‘co’.

Some people don’t have pronouns and will use their name instead, and some people also have multiple pronouns, like she/they.

Some languages don’t have gendered pronouns at all. Why is it important to respect pronouns?

It’s important not to assume someone’s pronouns based on their appearance, name or job.

Using the correct pronouns is essential to referring to people correctly and respectfully.

Using the right pronouns will make someone feel seen.

Declaring pronouns can create a safe place and avoids making assumptions. You can do this by using them in email signatures, introductions and meetings.

Are pronouns “for life”?

For some people, pronouns, like gender, aren’t fixed. They can change throughout their life, and sometimes multiple times.

People may also use different pronouns in different spaces, depending on how comfortable they feel.

Council of Europe's Commissioner for Human Rights sent TWO letters warning of possible human rights violations by the UK government, one about protest, one about trans rights. BBC mentions one in the headline and buries the other at the bottom of the report. #r4today

Absolutely their "the fix is in" style is deeply insulting and at this stage we can only support efforts of GLP and pray that the law can still prove itself independent after all. Too many disappointments & especially so the Supreme Court coddled by the #EHRC & old age makes it a tough sell.

The UK Government has been given clear warnings about the human rights implications of its crackdown on protest, and its failure to protect trans people.
Already, some within Labour are ready to join the far right in attacking the messenger and scrapping our human rights.

Woah! So Labour's position really is, 'telling us off for breaching human rights undermines the case for human rights'? Proper Trumpian stuff from Labour's answer to Suella Braverman.
