All fat, no meat. Using this as a journal of sorts.

Let me just dig through the 45 copies of this that I own (across generations, mind you). This is the all-time “physical media” movie. One of them is fleshy.

It sounds like bullshit, but I saw this seated next to Bruce Campbell a mere 1.1 miles from my house at the time. Surreal experience.

Preparing to teach I Live in Fear tomorrow by watching this 1956 documentary about the hibakusha (survivors of the bomb). I highly recommend it. It's beautiful and disturbing. Wish I could watch The World is Terrified: The Reality of the “Ashes of Death” (1957) too, but unfortunately I can't find it

AI sitcom accidentally a Lynchian fever dream. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and insane lament.

Following Doctor X with Curtiz’s Mystery of the Wax Museum (1933) and it’s equally as gorgeous and dreamy with the two strip color, but goodness gracious Glenda Farrell has taken my breath away. Hilarious, fiery, thirty miles a minute and thirty steps ahead. She’s robbing this movie blind!

The dialogue is a whole other thing but the bit about "fuck you shoot me I'll die for this shit" and the reaction is the crux here, from Gandhi's time on down, no authoritarian in history ever knows how to respond to this and it's why it beats them whenever deployed

Our entire economy is now AI and crypto speculation and sports betting. All three of them are just pure gambling and the closest one of them to not being total random chance is sports betting.
Oh, the serotonin this released.

Watched The Fog (1980) tonight, and on this viewing it jumped out at me to wonder if one the origins of this project was Carpenter's disgust with all the Bicentennial hoopla and wanting to make something explicitly about how America's historical charm is founded on historical violence.
