Yep, this all checks out.
This is actually quite brilliant, up to and including the final sentence 🔥

We should never forget that we live in an age of medical miracles.
Australia just recorded zero cervical cancer cases in women under 25 for the first time since records began in 1982. The amazing result of HPV vaccination.

Combatting poverty and hunger in this city will take every single one of us. Myself included.

I think it’s pretty clear at this point that one of the main impacts of LLMs is to disrupt thinking: to make it so that far too many people never properly learn how to do it, and then to control the output so there are thoughts that people never learn how to think.

Life tip for those like me who hate plain water but acknowledge its importance - every few hours, go to the sink, pour 16oz of water, and just chug it like the medicine that it is. Then move on with your day. No huge stupid water bottles, no forcing yourself to drink it with meals. Chug it. Done.

All of this.

(If you just got us Wishbone back I'd be willing to negotiate about the others.)
Look it's simple, we want less stress and we want to be able to afford things again and we want to feel like the rewards we were once promised for a lifetime of hard work still exist and also we want Wishbone back and those are the things we want

Just saw something about how "six planets are in retrograde," and I still have no real idea what that means or believe in astrology at all whatsoever but at this point in 2025 I will absolutely nod sagely and say, "ah, yes, that explains a lot."

Ok BlueSky: what are your favorite history books in terms of sheer page-turning, narrative propulsion? Thinking along the line of Killers of the Flower Moon, etc. Nonfiction chronicles that read like novels or movies.

Reading F451 with 10th graders and I asked what students would grab in a fire and the majority said they'd grab their phones and that's it.

I asked them, "don't you have everything backed up to the cloud?"

They nodded.

We then stared at each other in bafflement.

Sometimes I have problems teaching English and books because on a visceral, fundamental, truly-at-my-core level I just can't understand not loving reading. I've read boring books before but *reading* isn't boring. And I can't always get past that in my head to reach the students who think it is.
