I really need a Sean Penn as "Colonel Lockjaw" reading the answer to this question.
Today was a fun day of cute kitty cats and great food.
A tuxedo cat twisting about on concrete with his head upside down Two Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwiches on sesame buns sitting on a small plate. A chicken, carrot, celery, and red pepper stir fry in a glossy brown sauce atop white rice. A fluffy orange long haired cat sitting on red brick stairs.

He looks angry, especially with a shadow falling across his face but he is a sweetie.
Legitimately good album that people should listen to and I will not accept any questions about how I much I relate to it.
Relistening to their early 2000s albums and lovingly trolling my friend with quotes from their songs tonight is a WILD way to learn that Motion City Soundtrack put out a new album this year.

I will listen to it soon (I'm in the middle of "Commit This Memory" and will not interrupt that).
So tonight I was hanging out with a friend and I happened to be wearing my Motion City Soundtrack shirt and we got to remembering lyrics and this barback asked what we were talking about and my friend insisted they were an old bad band while I said it was an old good band!
This feels so wild, cause I feel like a Jim Carrey Jetsons movie on the heels of the Flintstones film, or even a decade later in the early 2000s would have been beloved...

Now it just feels like something someone would suggest sarcastically while describing how our culture is eating itself.
And again!

That's way BELOW PAR for any music from this era!

I stand by this being a band I can still listen to and wear their shirts without feeling awkward about and can still recommend to people!

Good music for good people!
Even relistening to Motion City Soundtrack there are some songs that make me cringe a little bit but in the same way that any teenager who finds this album at any point in time will when they grow up and realize these are songs written by a guy in their 20s who's working through it.
That barista was so excited to listen to this band that she had never heard of and learned about from a tour shirt I was wearing whereas I was like, "Oh God I forgot I was wearing this, please do not judge me for owning this because you will want to after hearing their songs! I've grown!"
Compare and Contrast me having to explain to a barista about how Say Anything is something you need to listen to with a grain of salt not because emo as a genre is sad but because so much early 2000s emo is explicitly misogynistic.
Good music for good people.

And now I'm relistening to "I Am The Movie" and I will say that compared to a lot of bands I listened to back in the early to mid 2000s (looking at you Brand New and Say Anything), I have no caveats about Motion City Soundtrack.

Still good, still fun, not embarrassing.

Same shit here: think the protest is a waste of time? Ok, fine, join a community patrol. Make coffee and pass out care packages to the unhoused. Door knock for the local candidate that promises to do smthg about ICE. Help a frutero with an extra 200% tip. So on and so on

I see protest discourse is hitting the feed again ahead of No Kings—idk man, go, don’t go,

…but if you do go make sure to link up with an org that’ll help you get into longterm organizing and if you don’t go, make sure to link up with an org that’ll help you get into longterm organizing

There's still an ad for the 2010 Census up at Santa Monica and Virgil.

I walk by it enough that it doesn't always get me but every so often I'm like, "What year is it?!"

Not only finally got to see One Battle After Another but I got to see it in Vistavision at the Vista.

What a great film! Cathartic, upsetting, heart touching, and hilarious all at once. Highly recommend.

🎂 It's my special cake and candles day you all have to be nice to me because it's been QUITE the year 🎂

So share some of my paintings??
In the pew-lined interior of a dim medieval church lit by rows of candles on tall staffs and pale sunlight coming through a window, a tall humanoid crow figure with flowing black robes and a glowing yellow eye stands beneath an ornately carved semicircular arch in Norman Romanesque style. On the wall surrounding the arch are many colourful murals depicting more humanoid crow figures with halos, carrying various items including swords, spears, harps, and chalices.
A painting set in a cosy shady woodland clearing on a sunny summer's day. In the centre of the frame, two figures sit on a fallen log mostly hidden by vegetation. The figure on the right has wavy blonde hair down past her shoulders, and wears a flowing white floor-length dress with long sleeves, with delicate lacework around the cuffs and neckline. She looks into the distance with a contemplative, sad expression. On her lap rests a small green book, covered by both of her hands.
The figure on the left sits leaning with her head against shoulder of the other figure. She wears a similar dress but simpler, and in a dark slate grey. Her hair is dark and straight, and flows down her tilted face, and she looks off towards a nightingale bird perched on a nearby branch. She raises a hand towards the other figure as if to get her attention.

Both figures are surrounded by various flowers. On the left of the frame are many spires of foxglove flowers in vivid pink and white, interspersed among green stinging nettles. On the right are the purple flowers of monkshood/wolfsbane.

Wrapping around the figures is a clear stream flowing from a distant pond that descends in a series of steps. Around the stream are many small mossy rocks, and shoots of dark green dog's mercury.

Above and behind the figures and flowers are two trees; on the left is a weeping willow with dangling dark green leaves. On the right are the branches of an old ash tree. A snowy scene in which a humanoid figure in long black robes with the head of a rook stands in a churchyard holding a long spear. By its feet is a red fox. Both are flecked with fallen snow. Around them are many weathered snow-covered graves. In the background is a medieval church of warm coloured stone with large rectangular windows and a battlemented parapet topped with pinnacles. Behind the main body of the church is the tower with clock face and belfry. Behind the church are tall but bare trees dusted with snow. More snow falls in the air. Politician archetypes I think could work for the left that haven't yet been tried: sensitive guy in the frat, person who has hiked the appalachian trail, vaguely butch woman who grew up working on a family farm, former seminary student, mare of easttown

This is cool after the war on everything called “porn” by platforms and payment processors. A machine that stole all your words can generate and sell “erotica” but you can’t haaa
Oh good, ChatGPT is getting "erotica for verified adults" later this year
We made ChatGPT pretty restrictive to make sure we were being careful with mental health issues. We realize this made it less useful/enjoyable to many users who had no mental health problems, but given the seriousness of the issue we wanted to get this right.

Now that we have been able to mitigate the serious mental health issues and have new tools, we are going to be able to safely relax the restrictions in most cases.

In a few weeks, we plan to put out a new version of ChatGPT that allows people to have a personality that behaves more like what people liked about 4o (we hope it will be better!). If you want your ChatGPT to respond in a very human-like way, or use a ton of emoji, or act like a friend, ChatGPT should do it (but only if you want it, not because we are usage-maxxing).

In December, as we roll out age-gating more fully and as part of our “treat adult users like adults” principle, we will allow even more, like erotica for verified adults.

Unsurprisingly, they did not care enough to help the family as they tried to save him. Even more unsurprising, they did not find any evidence of the migrants they were there to terrorize in the first place.
Do not open your door for these fucking losers. Rest easy Chop
