That's insulting. You know I'm as far from the modern republican as one can get. I put a lot of thought into it. And 2nd class? That's a case of the Const not keeping up with the times. Make an amendment to give them representation and the ability to act as a State in Constitutional conventions.

There is a lot of power reserved to the states by the Constitution, power which the State of DC would have that the City of DC doesn't, and that's potentially a setup for a constitutional crisis.

Agreed EC is shit. But there's more to statehood than Reps and Senators and EC votes. The issue of sovereignty is important. Consider Jan 6. The home of fed govt needs to be neutral. If DC was a state with a disagreement w/other states and wanted to prevent their officials from entering?

It's a deep gut feeling about the separation of State and federal autonomy. What exactly is the argument FOR statehood? They already get Electoral College votes.
