I am glad to see large media outlets reporting on this. Hopefully it shames the researchers into not continuing with the planned study or at minimum making sure ALL children in the study receive the birth dose of the HepB vaccine.

I wish the Brexit dinosaurs would stop this "Erasmus is for posh kids" crap. Half the young population goes to university, these days, in UK and most of EU. And most of the half that doesn't is also eligible for Erasmus+, which covers schools, further education, adult learners and in-work training.

Before Blair’s abolition of the surcharge at the turn of the century the answer to this key Q would certainly have included individual politicians involved in the decisions. Viewed as disproportionate & punitive, this v powerful deterrent was replaced with a standards regime & best value notices.
One very key q:

If the STDC or the airport default on their loans, who is on the hook?

Is it the councils in one of the poorest parts of the country, or is it the govt, who would have to write off the debt?

A: nobody seems to know. Govt still hasn’t provided clarity

So much of the commentary on the FWS judgment has been driven by reflexive responses to the outcome, but there are so many gaps and leaps in its reasoning that it will spawn litigation for years to come - @aoifemod.bsky.social and I flag some failings in judge craft:

“She said she expected both service providers and people using these services to "follow the rules". “

Guidance is what it says on the tin: guidance. Not rules. Not binding.
The head of an organisation responsible for drafting guidance really ought to know this & not use language that so misleads.

The fact is no presenter has ever had to leave the BBC for expressing conservative views, or even explicitly endorsing a right-wing party.

Boy, the Prime Minister who’s repeatedly said that growth is his number one priority will be furious when he hears about this!
Government has now - belatedly -published the impact assessment for the changes to skilled worker and care worker visas announced in May.

Impact is estimated between -£2 billion and £-10 billion (central - £10 billion).

Welcome to Britain, a country so short of dentists that an MP's 87-year-old mum pulled her teeth out with pliers. Also a country with thousands of foreign-qualified dentists who can’t work until they pass an exam so oversubscribed it’s like trying to book Glasto tickets. www.ft.com/content/f4e5...

If the reporting on the Peggie decision tells us anything, it should be that the way news gets reported in this country has little to do with truth, and much more to do with narrative - as well as whose heavily spun press release lands on journos desks first.

If Farage becomes PM, there is a risk. He gave a speaking slot at the Reform UK Party Conference to Aseem Malhotra—who falsely claims Covid vaccines did more harm than good (they saved an estimated 20 million lives) & who is chief medical adviser to MAHA Action, a US campaign group supporting RFK Jr
Grim and foreshadows what might happen in the UK.
I think the *speed* at which RFK Jr and his Great Barrington Declaration/anti-vaxx/Brownstone wrecking crew have been dismantling the US public health system has been really astonishing

As set out in this thread, the causes of the court backlog are chronic lack of funding and absurd inefficiency.

The government has made no proposals to address either. Their answer is to remove juries.

Rather than fix the leaking roof, their solution is to burn the house down.
Here is a list of reasons why some of my hearings and trials this year have been delayed and kicked off into the long grass, stuck in our record court backlog. Serious allegations which will now be tried *years* after the event. 🧵👇
