A family friend was telling us about what her husband shared about his experience in Broadview before he was deported back to Mexico. She's been sharing to friends and family because she's just in disbelief & horror what her husband told her. She wasn't able to talk to him until he was in Mexico.

A dark day for America.

People will die from losing food assistance and health care so that billionaires can get a tax cut.

Shame on all those who played a role in turning this bill into law.

Who was MN Rep. Melissa Hortman in the MN Legislature? READ about her consequential leadership in this THREAD by @taniel.bsky.social.

Take the time.
Melissa Hortman, who was assassinated last night, was the Speaker of the Minnesota House in the 2023-2024 session, when Democrats ran the state government.

That means she had a leading role in shepherding the many landmark reforms that Dems adopted in that period—an important legacy. Brief 🧵.

This obsession is with “young men turning to the right” is everything that is wrong with the discussion about the far right.

It is not just an inadequate read of what is happening, and a bias towards the male norm, but it also normalizes the far right and obscures support for inclusive politics. 🧵

This is the kind of work that helps us see the US-Mexico borderlands as a beautiful lively cultural homeplace to be cherished not just a menacing black line on a map to be armed to the hilt. No wonder they defund.

The gutting of the National Endowment for the Humanities' staff and funding does not make America great; it greatly diminishes what Americans stand for.
