I used to handle interlibrary loans for a public library. ILL is a magnificent expression of the idea that readers deserve books, and books deserve readers. It’s libraries everywhere pooling their resources for the benefit of everyone.

Killing IMLS could have killed ILL.

This is great news. 📚

The managerial class yearns for phrenology
Researchers are now saying that AI can find correlations between facial characteristics and success on the job.

The Economist says that corporations would have a “strong incentive” to deploy this technology when looking at applicants.

I promise I know this is the least disturbing part of the story, but the complete trampling of attorney ethics rules on conflicts is a pattern across this administration.
NEW: The White House intervened in a DHS investigation.

The target? Sex offender Andrew Tate.

The WH person? Paul “Nazi Streak” Ingrassia.

Who was previously also Tate’s lawyer.

100%. Elizabeth Spiers is right.

Aside:
If you ask Black folk that have lived all over this country 🙋🏿‍♂️what the most racist city they've lived in is, the most common winner is Boston.

Ironic, but Black folk can't convince white folk that Black folk understand which city is more racist.🤷🏿‍♂️
If you're talking about me, that is not what I said. The whole thread started bc a bunch of supposed progressives were like fuck the south, buncha racists, and I said that if you think of the south as all MAGA white people you are throwing a lot of people under the bus--especially Black Southerners

And before someone pipes in and says that people like my Chinese adoptee daughter just need to carry proof of citizenship like a RealID (which she does), there's plenty of proof that ICE/Border Patrol routinely dismiss RealIDs and Passports of non-white citizens as "obviously fake."
US citizen Maria Greeley, a Latina who was adopted, was walking home from work downtown when masked agents zip tied her. They said she “doesn’t look like a Greeley.” This is how the government treats people under current deportation policies.

I’ve already reposted this, but this is maybe my most “woke” opinion. Plus those wretched “baby boxes” are glorified child trafficking and a human rights violation.
abolishing the private #adoption industry and ending the legal practice of plenary adoption—the irreversible rewriting of a child’s legal identity and falsification of their natal kinship relations—does *not* mean abolishing long-term custodial care for a child who needs it. +

My kid, 16 at the time/19 now, called me from Target one evening after gymnastics practice. A 30-something guy was hitting on her and following her. She told him “you know I’m underage right?” He said “so?” She lost him in the store then stayed on the phone with me until she got to her car.
I want people to understand that in my youth, a youth that happened somewhere between the youth of Epstein, Trump, Maxwell, ex-Prince Andrew, et al & that of their victims, the term "jail bait" was framed as a compliment.

I feel like this point is weirdly under-discussed in the discourse! Acosta himself approved Epstein's notorious sweetheart non-prosecution agreement. By elevating Acosta to the cabinet later, Trump seemed to ... pretty clearly reward that?

This was not a surprise to anyone who followed me and other actual reporters who know Supreme Court procedure.

The only places it succeeded were to generate donations for Liberty Counsel and to prompt clicks through ragebait headlines from your favorite resistance grifters.

Sorry, it's true.
BREAKING: The Supreme Court DENIES former county clerk Kim Davis's request for the justices to take up her longshot bid to overturn 2015's Obergefell v. Hodges marriage equality decision. No justice even writes about the request.
