As someone else on Bluesky so eloquently put it, we're all a bunch of arrogant swampies... 😂
modhail.bsky.social
As a bonus fact, Someone you'd call a 'twat' in English, may be called a "klootviool" in Dutch, which means 'testicleviolin'...
modhail.bsky.social
That goes without saying! Nothing more joyous to a Dutchman than the misery of a fellow Dutch person...

I'm afraid to ask how one "dabbles" in such a thing... 0_o

As an example, when the French subjugated us, and introduced surnames for all, many of us thought it was just a load of bull that wouldn't stick past French rule. As a result we now have family names like "Naaktgeboren" (Born Naked), "Kloot" (Testicle), en "Slettenhaar" (Slut hair)...

Or something liked the look of your home, and took it. ;) Romans, Danes and Normans all left their mark on the English language.

(Not that the Netherlands fared much better, invasion/subjugation wise, we were just more linguistically spiteful about it...)

Oh, but it started well before that... There is a reason the living creature is a pig, but it's meat is pork, for example (check the French word for pig). Danelaw, Norman invasions, the almost entire English nobility being of French heritage at some point, etc. "Anglophone" is a French word! 😜😂

As many people, including Michael Caine, would prefer to have it...

It's incredibly amusing to me that, as the mother tongue of the foremost colonizing nation, how badly the English language itself got colonized...

That movie got a hilarious amount of grief in the Netherlands over choosing a dutch villain, and how he was portrayed. The pearl-clutching was almost funnier than the movie itself...
modhail.bsky.social
True, but Dutch seems to make of point of it. Also, we're fiends for the same word meaning different things...
modhail.bsky.social
As a native Dutch speaker I suspect that Dutch has been designed specifically to annoy German and English speakers...

Except that, at random times, it doesn't mean what you think it means. Or pronounced radically different.

It's not a male loneliness epidemic, it's actually a 'males being assholes to women epidemic'... Who would've thought.

I just wanna state, for the record, that IP protections aren't a pick 'n mix, they're all or nothing. If copyright doesn't apply to AI companies, it applies to none of us.

why is it always this same pitch. it's either "you will soon be able to see [thing that already exists] but with [different actor]" i've seen this same pitch made over and over and over. the actors in the stuff i like are already fine. if they were bad at acting the part i wouldn't already like it!

Despite early, and familiar, copyright growing pains, Sora may be the prelude to AI-generated on-demand TV and movies

"Funny" how copyright, in less than half a decade, has gone from 'absolutely vital to the survival of modern media' to 'unfortunate growing pains'....

So, I stumbled across this animation (left) that a professional studio made for a commercial client last year and a lot of it seems VERY familiar to my 2023 'PEAS' animation (right)...

A scenic shot of a Japanese bridge crossing a river with some buildings in the background and civilians plodding to and fro.

The river has vertical stone banks and the bridge crosses the river to the left from this. Several peasant types are going about their business. A couple of Japanese town buildings can be seen rear right.

Because I knew Amazon had one reduced from £124 to £59.99 that can do rotisserie chicken, so if someone wants to put a £25 order in to make up the difference, I'll get that one whilst the offer is available!
