Sometimes I type replies that my first thoughts think are good ideas.
More often than I'd like to admit, my second thoughts tell me "stop being stupid, don't post that."
But sometimes things get past my second thoughts, and my third thoughts say "Was it /really/ that clever? Best just delete it."

This is also why several western states are the shapes they are - There was a fight prior to the Civil War where both pro- and anti-slavery sides were adding new states to the Union in equal numbers (to keep the Senate balanced), so sliced up territories to fit the compromise lines they'd made up.
