ultimately, no one even grieved Charlie Kirk. he was just another thing for the worst people on earth to get outraged over. and when the outrage of real events wasn't enough, they invented new ones.

not even his wife saw his death as anything other than an opportunity.
my read is they were trying to whip up the usual frenzy, but then the effort got blown up by Candace Owens saying The Jews did it
It’s kind of incredible how little has been published about this guy and how little conservatives seem to care. Did people just forget these people were screeching for civil war when they thought he was a liberal?

Generally, as a cultural matter, I think the sort of 'knowing cynicism' of the 90s has run its course and as a culture, we need to move back to sincerely, to openly owning and loving what we believe.

My hot take is that this would not be a bad policy if/had it not occupy any limited spots for immigration. It is strategically beneficial for the US to invite as many corrupt elites from the Third World to its jurisdiction as possible.
An insane political move. One of the recurring complaints about immigration in the U.S. is that those seeking asylum jump the line. This is line-jumping — but for rich people, not those in need.

This is genuinely revolting and might possibly qualify as the sin against the Holy Ghost.
She compares the boat strikes to Jesus breaking the sabbath to heal someone.

There are a lot of public figures who have basically given up and accepted Trumpism, whether or not they personally like it, and it's extremely important that we make those people pay

A grim reminder: these people will never be satisfied. There’s no point at which they will say “we’ve won, let’s enjoy life.” They will always be looking for someone else to punish, to revile, to dehumanize. They’re empty without that.

Like I said, I think if no institutional restraints against tyranny remains, then Charlie Kirk's death would be a good thing. When we (correctly) condemn the assassination of this political figure, we are suggesting that there is still something worth saving about democracy.

The thing is if you believe that conscience and reason have completely lost their power in America so that liberal democracy is no longer possible, the solution should be “go firebomb Walmarts.”

I am horrified by Charlie Kirk’s death as if I don’t know who is Charlie Kirk, and I still profoundly hate Charlie Kirk as if nothing happened to him.

Standing up for due process isn’t standing up for criminals. It’s standing up for the fact that the truth isn’t just whatever the loudest or the most powerful person says it is.

You know what wins real wars against peer opponents? Warehouses full of bombs and bullets and tourniquets, maintenance crew to service the vehicles that move them and "warriors" to where they need to go, and boring spreadsheets to tell you how much of everything you have. Logistics! Logistics!
Hegseth: "Maximum lethality -- not tepid legality. Violent effect, not politically correct. We're gonna raise up warriors. Not just defenders."

Something that seriously undermines the democratic-republican ideals of the USA is that its people are (sometimes for good reason) no longer willing to see themselves as the sovereign of this country, thereby dodging the responsibility that comes from not just using but holding the power to vote.

The official voice of the US government is cruel, gross, and weird. What is that doing to us?
Joking memes about imprisonment, deportation, and death by alligator are designed to radicalize and desensitize.

if the military occupation of a second major American city in as many months is a distraction to you what the fuck is the real shit?????
@primaryschool.bsky.social Tim Miller interviewed Hakeem Jeffries and it just dropped- i’m 15 minutes in and already losing my mind. No less than three times does Jeffries describe the DC occupation as a “malignant distraction, but a distraction we have to deal with”. Not inspiring confidence lol

I want Democrats who understand that the goal is to lay waste to Trump, his toadies, his movement, and his party, and that after you’ve done that you can turn the country over to the survivors and they can quibble over how to fund the social safety net with less-than-existential stakes

There is a problem with the statement of "A caused B" that it could mean either "without A there wouldn't be B" or "A existed so that B ended up the way that we see it is", and people couldn't distinguish which is which.
