I find it *incomprehensible* that people can claim they are "fighting for the rights of women and girls" and not apparently acknowledge that - at the very least - many many reasonable women and girls *disagree with them about this*.
Graham Linehan has such little self-awareness he *really* doesn’t understand how totally unhinged he seems in his ‘woe is me’ batshit crazy ranting! 😬

He’s the ‘cautionary tale’ of what obsessive ‘gender critical’ transphobia leads to: no friends, no life, and spaghetti carbonara for one!

The “Woke Liberati” invokes in my mind a very flamboyant pianist who finally came out of the closet and embraced queer politics.
The UK far right is increasingly infiltrating the Anglican church so this is bang on trend.

it's actually kinda funny in a way to get to the finish line of curing cancer and having the government go eh you know what. never mind
A tiny trial in New York has shown that personalized mRNA vaccines can provoke massive, lasting immune responses against pancreatic cancer, even as sweeping federal cuts now threaten the fragile labs required to produce them.

Robin Ince once more showing what an amazing person he is. It's tragic that we are in a world where opposing transphobia and hate means having to resign, while being transphobic and hateful means getting regularly featured by national media outlets.
Very sad that I felt I had no choice but to resign from The Infinite Monkey Cage - a victory for the transphobes and other bigots - I did it because so much of the media has chosen to believe the kind and empathetic people are a fiction - they are real and so often unrepresented.

The two movies I saw while baked out of my brain were Clockwork Orange, and Se7en.

I chose well.

(Narrator: He did not.)
Raising the always fun question: What are your most memorable theater-going experiences?

Mine also include The Matrix, Blair Witch, and being way too stoned in Belgium when Fellowship of the Ring was sold out so we sat in the back row for Mulholland Drive instead.
It was hands-down one of the most memorable theater-going experiences I can remember, a collective 30-minute butt-clench/armrest-grab for the final climb. And we knew he lived! Wild.

apart from the sheer inconceivable horror of the El Fasher massacre and its attendant horrors itself, the thing I'm feeling depressed about is that it probably won't matter.

these were people already on the utmost margins of the global system, who the world has already decided it doesn't care about
60,000 is the *low end* estimate.
So, El Fasher looks like one of the worst single event atrocities to happen this century so far, but the evidence has come in such a trickle it seems to only now be getting verified

Autism/vaccines here, but this is a claim made way too often in general: "yes, counter reaction X is awful, but it wouldn't have worked if social trend Y hadn't gone too far". The causality is often just declared as true, under evidenced and doesn't engage with the history of X before we even had Y
This bit!
"The conspiracy-laden crusades by US health secretary Robert F Kennedy Jr and others to discredit vaccines, blaming them for rising autism rates, would have less success had diagnosis rates not been inflated by expanded diagnostic criteria."

Has JBM heard of the first MMR go around? 🙄

So, coming from an interesting discussion about how effectively Australia is currently being governed ("an unglamorous but adequate government") and how much scorn and hatred in their direction is warranted compared to the likes of Dutton/Joyce/Hanson, why am I not comforted by the status quo? 1/n
Hmm. I have thoughts, but am about to have dinner on Jeju island so those thoughts will have to wait.

Rural Nebraska as the Bermuda Triangle for single professional women.
Imagine living in the Hallmark Romance Universe.

You've got a fulfilling job and life and friends in a vibrant bustling place, and then some monstrous entity yoinks you right out of your life to the middle of bumfuck nowhere thousands of miles away.

And then, starts *fucking with your mind*
Delta Green scenario where they discover some entity has been turning a rural town into a Hallmark Christmas romance.

Somehow it's luring businesswomen from several states away and influencing them into falling in love with lumberjacks, for its own mysterious purposes

We find ourself in the dangerous position of having our public forums owned by billionaires who have extreme power to control algorithms that decide what we all see and don’t. That’s scary. I don’t know what we can do about that.

That’s what our reporter discovered on a Goodreads page tied to the email address of a top Pentagon official. What came next was even wilder.
I asked the Pentagon about Pete Hegseth's mentor. Then the threats started.

Scoop: the pro-teen social media ban lobby group 36 Months was funded & co-staffed by its co-founder's ad production firm that was simultaneously making gambling ads

The federal government has ignored calls for a gambling ad ban while pursuing the social media ban.
