Hey y’all- a great, small rescue in Austin can use some help. They’re trying to get a badly injured kitten from the border up to Austin. If you’ve got a few bucks to add, that would be huge.

Anne is a trained pediatric anesthesiology nurse who uses her skills to help tinies

And yet another precious life is hanging in the balance.

Believe it or not, we truly loathe asking for help as often as we have been lately. But right now, another kitten desperately needs us — and whether we can step up depends on what our supporters are willing to make possible.

This little one is currently at Palm Valley Animal Shelter. She was brought in by animal control after being found stuck in a fence for three days. Her right front leg was already gone — amputated by trauma — with bone exposed. 💔

With no veterinarian on staff, the shelter has no means to provide the care she urgently needs. She’s been given an END OF DAY deadline — 5PM today, October 16th. Without a rescue stepping up, her story will end there.

We want to say yes. We want to bring her to safety.
But to do that, we need your help.

We’ll need funds for transport, our rockstar volunteer transporter Jessica has already agreed to make the drive for us, a surgical amputation to clean and close her wound, and ongoing care. If our community can rally behind her, even just a few dollars at a time, we can tell the shelter she’s safe and on her way to healing.

Can we count on you to help us say yes?

Every single dollar, every share, every show of support tells us she’s not alone - and neither are we.

Can you spare $2 for this little one today?

With alt text. Greg Abbott is sending the National Guard to the Capitol for No Kings. It is imperative we make them look ridiculous.
Governor Abbott Deploys DPS, Texas National Guard Ahead Of Antifa-Linked
Protest

AUSTIN - Governor Greg Abbott today directed the Texas Department of Public Safety
(DPS) and Texas National Guard to deploy personnel and tactical assets to Austin ahead of a
planned antifa-linked demonstration to protect Texans and their property

`Violence and destruction will never be tolerated in Texas," said Governor Abbott. "Today, :
directed the Texas Department of Public Safety and Texas National Guard to deploy al
necessary law enforcement officials and resources to ensure the safety of Austin residents
Texas will deter criminal mischief and work with local law enforcement to arrest anyone
engaging in acts of violence or damaging property."

At the direction of Governor Abbott, DPS law enforcement personnel, including state
troopers, Special Agents, and Texas Rangers, along with Texas National Guard soldiers, will
be surged to the Austin area to maintain law and order. This is in addition to the thousands
of DPS troopers already stationed throughout the state. These law enforcement officers and
soldiers will be supported by aircraft and other tactical assets.

DPS' Homeland Security Division is actively monitoring the planned protest in Austin, as
well as any other potential violent demonstrations across the state. DPS will investigate any
links to known terrorist organizatio
ns and swiftly bring charges against those who engage ir
unlawful activity.
...primaries are part of our normal, functioning democratic system, not a sign of anything being torn apart. This framing is melodramatic & disingenuous.
Yes! It also doesn't matter because the question assumes all of us live in echo chambers. Many of us have conservative family members, coworkers, neighbors, current or former classmates, etc. Some of us live in deep red areas, deep red states, even! Some are former conservatives.
That latter point is important! Where I live, gun culture is a huge thing, bigot militia types are active, & county sheriffs, etc, have threatened past No Kings protests. It's an open carry state where electeds call opposition terror. Considering optics in light of those risks makes sense!
& it's actually a big deal when those of us in the Bible Belt, in red states show solidarity with places like Portland. I dunno about everywhere, but in TX & OK there is an assumption from our state gov'ts that we are not the kind of people who see ourselves in coastal cities like Portland.
Because his Project 2025 killed it, because he wants to put all of us in trauma in as many ways as possible because he thinks that'll get him his authoritarian theocracy. He, Thiel, Musk, Miller, etc use tfg as their convenient front for their greedy, evil plans.
I'm glad you saved your gecko visitor! We still haven't found this 1, which makes me worry Stella will make it her snack.☹️ We rescued a tiny one that got in last week & successfully released it outside.

This is just how a ton of RWers talk in public on Twitter. That place is crawling with that kind of language & has been since long before Elon bought it. Elon encourages it by following them, liking or RTing their posts, etc, though. That (& all the accompanying images) drove many of us here.

The Portland Frog army has now infiltrated Tulsa, OK and they’ve made an unlikely alliance with the T-Rex infantry and Sharks on Hoverboards mercenary forces.

This is truly terrifying.
Well, I played some guitar & started writing a modal piece in an open tuning, & (unrelated) now it's time for more nsaids, allergy meds, a heating pad, & making a nest in some fleece blankets to hopefully lure a cat into curling up with me while I try to distract myself with TV.
Prescribing myself extra coffee today, because I need it & I can.
The joy of "bubble," "thought police" discourse from those who must think flyover country red states just don't exist (or that they can shove "forgotten white supremacist, Dominionist dude in a diner" down all of our throats), from people whose local & state gov't aren't literally threatening them.
I'll be sure to remember thought police & chicken hearts or whatever the next time Bo French talks about purging Tarrant Co of Democrats or my county sheriff threatens deadly force if he feels scared of peaceful No Kings protests. But keep doubling down & enjoy feeling persecuted by comments...
Re: Weiss & thought police
Weiss created a joke of a university where they indulge RW grievance politics...in a state already captive to strategic grievance theater from the RW party that's had us in a vice grip since the early '00s.

She's their ally in crushing dissent, & she knows it. She openly states that it's her goal to target pluralistic, egalitarian democratic values. She's not contrarian, she's a RWer.

She accuses us of being in bubbles & being thought police, while my red state is the 1 with bounty laws on exercising bodily autonomy & my AG targets libs/lefties, while our voices at the ballot box are silenced by gerrymandering & limited polling places in our cities, while our state enacts literal violence.
Popularity isn't quality, veracity, or integrity.
Gags in hand is melodramatic. People here exercising their free speech in comments do not have nearly your reach, influence or power. They're comments, not works in a national publication, not the force of government coming down on your head. They may not be fun or pleasant, but you're not silenced.
I think about every time I learn some cool new trick in Ableton Live, too, or I finish a Max for Live tutorial & make some cool little device or effect. I once turned the ringing sound of some tweezers I have into a playable pitched instrument, I turned a sample of my cat (RIP) into an instrument
I'm also working in new tunings, & it's liberating to have no idea what I'm doing & to just discover things, to compose as I learn. Beginner's mind is enjoyable--like revisiting childhood play! Creative expression & experimentation makes life worthwhile!
Like, I'm working on Travis picking & counterpoint on guitar, which twists my brain in knots in new ways--there's this joy in starting something challenging & struggling, then experiencing it coming together as you work through it!

this is what the AI bros sound like
yeah I built an AI that hangs out on your porch and drinks a six pack for you so you can write regexes at work
Right? These people must not be familiar with the endorphin rush from hitting that creative peak flow state or the satisfaction of finally pulling off a technique you've worked hard to learn. These are people who loathe process, & artists, writers, musicians live for process. It's the fun bit!
there’s this weird idea a lot of people seem to have about how all of us writers and artists must secretly want to use AI and are merely resisting temptation for ethical reasons, and like, no, it’s not hard for me to resist drinking the bowl of Piss With Glass In It actually
In addition to the joy of cuddling with my wise tortie & the tortie who operates on alien frequencies (well...when she's not busy doing crimes), I'm learning new guitar tunings & Travis picking. I'm really into some new Hannah Frances songs--Falling From and Further & Surviving You are so good
Just want to remind everyone that little moments of joy are so important right now.

For instance, my cat does not understand the human concept of kisses beyond Incoming Nose = Love. So every time she’s happy, she’ll smush her face or shove her nose into ours.

Please share your joys with us.
