getting a compliment is so complicated because how do you politely say I’m so sorry you seem to be very stupid and unable to perceive reality! not your fault, I promise! I fool people regularly!

🎂 E. H. Shepard was born on this day in 1879. A titan among British illustrators, he’s best remembered for his Winnie-the-Pooh illustrations. 🧸

The surprising ways his artwork & the text work together to shape the Pooh stories are a story all their own ⤵️

Woodcut of Blinky from Pac-Man.

Rather than carving this design, I assembled the print matrix from small wooden cubes. It was rather fiddly, and it's annoying to print, but I do love the outcome's combination of analog and digital visuals.

IMLS announces "upon further review" that it is reinstating all federal grants to libraries. It leaves out that it's doing this because a federal court told them a few weeks ago that the Trump admin's decision to destroy libraries was not legal.

Gender-affirming care saves lives
1. A landmark study was just published in The Journal of Pediatrics.

It found a 68% reduction in suicidality for trans youth getting HRT.

It also found only 7 of more than 400 stopped taking HRT... and of those that did, 4 still identified as gender-diverse.

Transgender care saves lives.
Study In The Journal Of Pediatrics Finds Trans Youth Care Lowers Suicidality, Few Detransition
The groundbreaking study found that suicidality dropped for transgender youth receiving hormone therapy by nearly 70%, with only 7 patients of 432 discontinuing treatment.

TIL that there is a low profile fire extinguisher that is only 3 1/2 inches thick (90mm). This is to comply with disability regulations that say objects can only protrude 4 inches from a wall. They can also fit in a cabinet recessed between studs.

Important thread and article on the impact of fewer inspections (down 50%), fewer inspectors, fewer FDA support staff, and fewer CDC contamination surveillance programs all leading to more sick people and more recalls (radioactive shrimp anyone?).
NEW: Billions of pounds of food are imported to the U.S. each year.

The FDA inspects foreign producers to ensure what we're eating is safe from pathogens and dangerous manufacturing practices.

But now, after Trump's drastic staff cuts, these inspections have plummeted to a historic low.
